Principal Report

From the desk of Maria Iemma, Principal

Welcome Back to Term 2 at Beverly Hills Girls High School.

As we settle into Term 2, we are excited to share the incredible achievements and developments that have marked the beginning of this academic period. From professional development initiatives to student accomplishments, our school community continues to demonstrate excellence across all areas.

Professional Development Takes Center Stage

We commenced Term 2 with two dedicated School Development Days focused on High Potential & Gifted Education (HPGE). Our committed staff engaged in comprehensive professional learning modules designed to enhance our support for high potential and gifted and education.

The training encompassed three key areas: explicit teaching strategies for high potential and gifted students, specialized support for high potential and gifted EAL/D (English as an Additional Language or Dialect) learners, and faculty-specific HPGE approaches. All teaching staff completed five hours of NESA elective learning, ensuring we are well-prepared to meet the diverse needs of our learners.

The second development day was dedicated to programming and lesson preparation, allowing our educators to translate their new knowledge into practical classroom applications that will directly benefit our students.

NAPLAN Results on the Horizon

Looking ahead to August 2025, we eagerly await the release of NAPLAN 2025 results. The Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) will provide detailed Progress NAPLAN test reports, offering comprehensive insights into student performance in literacy and numeracy across Years 3, 5, 7, and 9.

These results will feature proficiency levels for each tested year group and enable valuable comparisons between states, territories, and different student subgroups. We are pleased to report that preliminary indicators suggest our students performed exceptionally well, reflecting the quality of education and support provided at Beverly Hills Girls High School.

Individual student reports and school averages will be distributed to parents and carers once the official results are released.

Honoring Our Heritage: Anzac Deck Unveiled

A significant milestone was reached earlier this term with the official opening of our Anzac Deck. This permanent tribute to the Anzacs represents a collaborative effort between our school community and the broader Australian heritage.

On Monday, May 5th, 2025, we held a moving Commemorative Ceremony to unveil this colorful mural, which now stands as a proud centerpiece within our school grounds. The project was initiated and co-designed by our 2025 Student Representative Council, showcasing the leadership and historical awareness of our students.

This meaningful addition to our school was made possible through a $1,500 Anzac Community Grant from the Office of Veterans Affairs, demonstrating the community's support for educational initiatives that honor Australian military history.

Academic Excellence: University Partnership Success

We are thrilled to celebrate the achievements of fifteen Year 11 students who have been selected for the prestigious U@Uni Academy program with the University of Technology Sydney. Congratulations to Aliyah, Alma, Ayshia, Dahlia, Elisha, Hajar, Hanan, Jayda, Lana, Maheen, Malia, Mariam, Naweed, Noor, and Petrelia for their successful applications.

This two-year program will provide these exceptional students with authentic university experiences, including campus visits and participation in university-level programs. Such partnerships underscore our commitment to preparing students for post-secondary success and exposing them to higher education opportunities.

Sports and Community Engagement

Despite challenging weather conditions that began with torrential rain, our Annual Athletics Carnival on Friday, May 2nd, 2025, proved to be a tremendous success. As the sun emerged, so did the competitive spirit of our students, resulting in a day filled with achievement and school pride. Congratulations to all participants and winners.

Parent/Teacher Interviews

Our Parent-Teacher interviews on Wednesday, May 7th, generated overwhelmingly positive feedback from families. Parents described the evening as extremely productive and valuable, reinforcing the importance of collaborative partnerships between school and home. We encourage any families who were unable to attend to consider joining us for our next parent-teacher evening, as student success is significantly enhanced when schools and families work together.

Global Connections: Promoting International Education

During weeks 4 and 5, our school leadership traveled to China to promote public education and specifically advocate for girls' education at Beverly Hills Girls High School. This international outreach aims to attract more international students to our school community, further enriching our cultural diversity and global perspectives.

We anticipate that this initiative will strengthen our international connections and provide additional opportunities for cultural exchange and learning.

Parent Survey

As part of our school’s self-evaluation, we would like to know the opinions of parents and caregivers on different areas of school life. With the school’s consent, the information will be used to develop a picture of responses from across public schools in NSW. Your response is confidential and will be stored securely. Survey completion is voluntary.
