Empowering Youth to Inspire Change

Empowering Youth to Inspire Change (EYTIC) is a leadership program with a social justice focus offered to students across six schools in the Sutherland and St George region. 29 year 9 students began their journey as youth ambassadors for the program in June last year and will complete the program at the final showcase event on June 26th.

This year, as year 10 students, the girls have completed their second leadership training day where they learned to develop resilience, motivation and social skills. For Harmony Day, the group organized a poster competition for the school, encouraging students to submit posters with a social justice theme.

In May, Shopfront artists came to the school to complete a two-day project assisting the group in writing a song and creating a music video to promote anti-racism. The girls worked incredibly hard across only 8 hours, writing lyrics, learning about song structure and understanding video production. It was an incredible team effort and demonstrated the incredible leadership qualities developing in this group of dedicated students.

The culmination of all their hard work will be highlighted at the final showcase event in June where they will share what they have learned and developed over the course of the year. It has been incredibly inspiring to see the girls working together, compromising, showing incredible responsibility and care for each other, the visiting facilitators and their supervising teacher!
