Mindful photography workshop enhances year 12 retreat experience
During the year 12 retreat, students had the opportunity to participate in a mindful photography workshop. This experience was designed to foster presence, creativity and a deeper appreciation for the world around them.
The workshop introduced students to essential photography concepts such as colour, texture and perspective, while highlighting the importance of slowing down and observing their surroundings with fresh eyes. Instead of merely snapping photos, students were encouraged to engage mindfully with their environment—paying attention to light, patterns and the small details often overlooked in the business of daily life.
Guided by mindfulness principles, students explored various ways to capture the beauty around them. They focused on the vibrant contrast of colours, the rich textures of both natural and built environments and unique perspectives that shifted their view of familiar scenes. The outcome was a collection of images that not only showcased their developing photography skills but also their ability to be present and intentional in their creative process.
Below are some examples of their work, each reflecting a unique interpretation of the world through a mindful lens.
Understanding Ramadan: supporting our Muslim students
As we enter March, we would like to acknowledge that Ramadan has commenced for many of our Muslim students.
This significant period involves fasting from sunrise to sunset, which can lead to feelings of lethargy due to the lack of food and fluid intake.
In addition to fasting, students may have additional family commitments that could impact their attendance, particularly on Monday, 31 March, which marks Eid al-Fitr—the celebration that concludes Ramadan.
For those interested in learning more about Ramadan and Eid, you can find additional information through resources like Understanding Ramadan and Eid | SBS Learn.
We thank you for your consideration and support of our students during this important time
