The Human Brain by

Stage 2 & 3

On Tuesday 12th August Many of our stage 2 and 3 students were involved in Sporting events. Those who were not involved in Sport had a day at school learning about the human brain. We learned about the different parts of the brain, created a labels diagram, looked at a model of the brain, carried out research and experiments. Here is some of the work students did on computers. Other students created posters.

Facts about the brain

By Jett Mitchell

Frontal lobe The frontal lobe manages thinking, emotions, personality, judgment, self-control, muscle control and movements, memory storage etc.

Brain stem The brain stem controls vital functions for the human body like breathing, heart rate, and consciousness, and is composed of the midbrain, pons, and medulla oblongata.

Cerebellum The cerebellum, also known as the “little brain,” is a key part of the brain that is able to control balance, movement, posture, etc.

Spinal cord The spinal cord is a long, tube-like structure that supports the human body and connects to the brain. It is part of the nervous system. It also descends from the brain stem, which is another part of the brain.

Temporal lobe The temporal lobe helps with memory and interprets what is happening and remembers it. It is also a key factor for verbal actions, processing hearing and seeing. Can you imagine life without your temporal lobe?

Sylvian fissure The Sylvian fissure is a border for the left and right parts of the brain. It separates them in simpler terms.

Precentral gyrus The precentral gyrus is a critical area for controlling voluntary movements. It houses the  primary motor cortex, which sends signals to the spinal cord to initiate movement on the opposite side of the body

Central sulcus

It separates the frontal and parietal lobes

Postcentral gyrus

The postcentral gyrus controls your general sensations of touch, pressure, pain, temperature, and proprioception

Parietal lobe

The parietal lobe helps with your touch, spatial reasoning and navigation and processing important information
