Wellbeing & Inclusion
at Willy
At Willy Primary, looking out for others is something our students do naturally. Our Junior School Councillors are passionate advocates for making a difference, and their meetings are always buzzing with enthusiasm and fresh ideas. Supporting those in need has long been part of who we are as a school community, and this term was no exception.
This term, our Junior School Council chose to support the Good Friday Appeal for the Royal Children's Hospital; a cause that is close to many hearts in our community. The Royal Children's Hospital touches the lives of so many Victorian families, and we are proud to play a small part in supporting the incredible work that happens there every single day.
Our fundraiser this term took the shape of a fantastic cupcake stall, and what a success it was! Students and staff alike lined up to grab a sweet treat, and the generosity of our families in donating baked goods was truly heart-warming. A huge thank you goes to JSC staff leaders Bianca Italiano and Emma Chang, our dedicated JSC student members, and every family who contributed. Together, we raised just over $1700 for the Good Friday Appeal; a remarkable effort that reflects the kind of community we are so fortunate to be part of.
It is worth pausing to reflect on why giving back matters, not just for those who receive, but for those who give. Research consistently shows that acts of generosity benefit our own wellbeing in meaningful ways:
It lifts our mood. There is a well-documented connection between acts of giving and feelings of happiness and fulfilment. Contributing to something bigger than ourselves creates a genuine sense of joy and purpose.
It reflects and reinforces our values. Many people give because they feel a deep sense of responsibility toward others. Generosity is not just an action, it is an expression of who we are and what we stand for.
It shapes our children. When young people are involved in giving back, they learn that their actions matter and that even small contributions can make a real difference. These early experiences of generosity tend to stay with children for life.
It brings us together. Giving is contagious in the best possible way. When one person acts generously, it inspires others to do the same, strengthening friendships, families and communities in the process.
We are so proud of our Willy Kids and the community that surrounds them. Thank you for continuing to show them that other people matter.
