MUSICA E TEATRO

Musica e Teatro
In Grade 5/6 we have been exploring musical elements such as Ritmo, Tempo and Armonia. Armonia is not typically taught in Primary School, however, it was a powerful way to embody the idea of Harmony Day. While students are aware of the philosophy behind Harmony Day as we celebrate it (inclusion and acceptance and diversity were the key words they mentioned), many students did not know that Harmony came into the English language through the French language, in the 14th Century, and was a word related to music. We explored the definition of Armonia musicale and many students came to the conclusion that beautiful music is made when we listen to each other and make room for all instruments to be heard - which creates balance.
In each class, each student had an instrument and one at a time they would join the “cerchio armonioso”, playing their instrument once they had heard what the person before them had added to the musical circle.
In Grade 3/4, alongside our “cerchio armonioso”, we have also been enjoying learning about tempo. Our favourite activity is a game called “Tempo tag” which involves a metronomo and a lot of self-control. You must listen carefully to the tempo as dictated by the metronome and only step on the first beat.
A casa…
You can support your child/ren’s learning in music at home by noticing musical elements such as tempo in the music you hear.
For example:“Oooh, this song is really fast! I wonder what the tempo is…”
It’s not important whether we know the answer, at this stage. Thinking about what the answer might be leads to deeper levels of learning through curiosity.
