Introducing our Re-Set/Re-Teach

Introducing the New Re-Set Re-Teach Room:

The SWPB (School Wide Positive Behaviour) team spent last term reviewing the processes and protocols of the Reflection Room. As a result, Caulfield Junior College will implement updated Re-Set Re-Teach Room protocols effective from the first day of Term 2.

What is the "Re-Set Re-Teach" Philosophy?

The most important thing to know about this new approach is that the Re-Set Re-Teach Room is not a time-out space; it is a dedicated teaching space.

We believe that behaviour is a form of communication. When a student is unable to meet expectations, our goal is to provide a calm, structured environment where they can regulate, reflect, and re-learn. Instead of simply receiving a consequence, students are given the instructional support they need to navigate similar situations more successfully in the future.

Embedded in Our Core Values:

This initiative is a direct reflection of our school’s commitment to Respect, Optimism, Honesty, and Empathy. The process ensures that:

  • Students have the time and support to de-escalate before they begin problem-solving.

  • There is a clear learning goal for every session—the time is used for personal growth and skill-building.

  • Restorative language is used to help students understand how their actions affect others and what they can do to make things right.

Key Features of the Program:

  • Age-Appropriate Support: We have updated our protocols to ensure they meet the developmental needs of our students. For example, our Prep to Year 2 students will have a maximum session time of 15 minutes to keep the intervention focused and supportive.

  • Instructional Scripts: Staff use a consistent set of restorative questions to guide students through a reflection on what happened, who was affected, and how to create a better plan for next time.

  • Collaborative Follow-Up: A key part of this process is the Re-Set Re-Teach Proforma, which students complete with staff support. This document will be sent home for you to sign and return, ensuring that the school and home remain partners in supporting your child’s social and emotional growth.

Our goal is to prioritise instruction over consequence, ensuring every student at Caulfield Junior College has the support to learn from their choices and continue to grow.
