A message from Margie

We love sports at Uraidla PS!

We were lucky to have glorious weather this year for our Sports Day. Students competed in ten events across the day, ranging from tabloid events like egg and spoon as well as athletic events such as long jump and javelin.

Students demonstrated great teamwork and demonstrated our Learn Stand Give Fly values across the day, supporting members of their team as well as their classmates.

It was a great effort from all 3 Houses. Flinders were successful in taking out the Athletics Shield for the second year in a row, with Light second and Eyre third. Eyre once again took out the Learn Stand Give Fly Shield for the third year running, with Light second and Flinders third. COngfatulations to these Houses and to all ribbon winners too.

It was fantastic to see so many parents coming to support and enjoy the day with their kids. A big thank you to all staff who get here early to set up the town oval and make sure the day runs as smoothly as possible. Thank you to the Sports Day committee who work tirelessly to organise the event and take on feedback to continue to improve the event. A special thank you to Troy, who went 'above and beyond' to make sure the event ran smoothly!

Thank you to Parents and Friends who had the Willow Cafe open, offering cakes and refreshments throughout the breaks, along with holding another hugely successful Easter raffle to raise funds for the school.

Staffing news for Term 2

Next term, we welcome Izzy Richards (known to many students as a former staff member of our OSHC), who will be teaching HASS to most students on Wednesdays, and will be teaching in the Year 2 class on Fridays. We also welcome Zoe Walker-Roberts, who will be teaching in the Year 3/4 class Monday-Wednesday each week next term, replacing Stephen Tsiaprakas, who is taking Long Service Leave. We are all looking forward to working with Izzy and Zoe; we feel lucky to have such high-quality teachers to step in when needed during the school year!

Uniform help, please!

There are quite a number of non-uniform items appearing across the school. I wonder whether you could please help us with this?  It makes it hard for teachers to monitor their students' uniforms when some kids keep coming to school wearing items that aren't a part of our agreed-upon uniform. It's also harder for parents to convince their children they can't wear things when others are!

It can sometimes be confusing to know what is ok and what isn't. Basically, uniform items are not decorative in nature. They are in school colours with no pattern or decoration or logo.

Please don't send your child to school with:

  • Bright socks
  • Logos
  • Decorative Jewellery (plain studs or sleeper earrings only please)
  • Head bands, etc

If you believe your child needs to wear any item for cultural or religious reasons, you can request an exemption by emailing me at margie.sarre187@schools.sa.edu.au. Also feel free to check in with me if you are not sure about whether items are suitable or not.

Thanks so much!

Bike and scooter rules

Students are all aware of the school rules about not riding their bikes and scooters on school grounds during school hours, to keep everyone safe. We sometimes need to remind children that this also applies during OSHC and Vacation Care hours. This means that every weekday, including school holidays, we ask students not to ride their scooters or bikes on school grounds between 7am-6pm. If you can remind your children about these rules, we would really appreciate it!

That's a wrap!

That brings us to the end of our longest term of the year. I want to thank you all for your wonderful support. Our teachers have really appreciated the positive attitude and teamwork shown by parents and carers during Learning Discussions. We often say how lucky we are to have families who see themselves as partners with us in their children’s education.

Thank you for working with us and making our school community such a great place to learn and grow.

Have a wonderful holiday, everyone!
