IDEALS

IDEALS Week
Vanessa Chien, Year 11, Ridgeway Campus
The IDEALS program is a wonderful opportunity for students to showcase and develop a range of skills and attitudes, which allows for students to both engage and challenge themselves as learners. Standing for Internationalism, Democracy, Environment, Adventure, Leadership and Service, this program provides students with the chance to work alongside a number of non-for-profit organisations, immersing themselves within a wide array of rewarding and meaningful activities in an area of their interest.
During IDEALS week this year, which is held at the same time as Cadet Camp, students engaged in numerous activities.
The Ivy Voice and Photography team play an important part of the IDEALS program by recording and showcasing some aspects of what the IDEALS week has to offer.
Rafting on the Yarra was a thrilling outdoor challenge that built teamwork, resilience, and appreciation for the environment around.
STEAM-Based Planning and Project days was an opportunity to explore personal passions through self-directed projects, enhancing creativity, critical thinking and collaborative skills used in the different streams that run each Tuesday.
Leadership Day with YLEAD, led by the nationally respected youth organisation was an inspiring day focused on building confidence, communication, and leadership potential. This opportunity promoted self-awareness, peer leadership, and complemented other leadership programs offered across different year levels.
Lastly, Melbourne Madness, was a fast-paced urban adventure where students navigated the city in teams, solving challenges and exploring Melbourne’s culture and landmarks. This activity fostered independence, problem solving, and a greater connection to our city through teamwork.
Being a Leader in IDEALS Week
Emily Ma, Year 12, Plenty Campus
Being an IDEALS leader challenged me in meaningful ways, pushing me to take responsibility for others and lead with empathy and initiative. It showed me that leadership isn’t just about what happens in structured sessions but also in the small, everyday interactions that help create a positive and supportive community.
Childcare in IDEALS
Jaque Pham, Year 11, Plenty Campus
I have been a part of the first group who has visited the childcare after it had been reintroduced, and I enjoyed this experience immensely through the involvement with the children and the time spent with them. This program allows for memorable connections to be made between upcoming students and mature students. I believe that this program is a benefit to IDEALS as it provides the students with opportunities to demonstrate leadership to young children and encourages collaboration between them. I personally enjoyed playing with the children and reminiscing on childhood during stressed school period. Ultimately, I am grateful for this program to be incorporated into IDEALS for students to have a moment of fun and bond with the children at the childcare.
