Principal's Message

Jess Davis

(Principal)

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a wonderful morning we had on Monday with so many of our mothers, grandmothers, aunties, carers, and other special female figures in our students’ lives joining us for classroom visits and a delicious morning tea. It was a delight to see our school filled with so many visitors also seeing the pride in our students' eyes as they shared their learning classrooms and special activities with our visitors.

Our Patron Saint, St Teresa of Kolkata, believed motherhood was a divine gift and the most important job in the world, viewing a mother's selfless devotion as the foundation of peace.

To Mother Teresa, every child was God's greatest gift and a mother's role was a sacred calling to reflect His love through daily service and protection of life.

These community events are a vital part of our school culture, I would like to extend my deepest thanks to not only everyone who attended our Mothers Day celebration but also to our staff for their organisation of the morning.

School Uniform update

Last year our previous school uniform stockist, A Plus Schoolwear was sold to Lowes. I just wanted to provide our community with an update regarding current stock levels and upcoming changes.

Stock Levels and Uniform Colour Matching

You may have noticed that some items are currently in lower supply at Lowes. This is a temporary part of the transition process. To ensure a smooth handover, Lowes initially purchased 12 months of stock from the previous manufacturer to cover the sampling period. However, given the large number of schools Lowes is currently onboarding, the process of creating, approving, and manufacturing new garments is a significant undertaking. We are working closely with their product development team to ensure all required samples are approved and stock is replenished as quickly as possible.

Several specific colours in our uniform were proprietary to APlus, meaning Lowes has had to undergo a colour matching and sampling process to ensure our uniform remains a consistent and high quality product. I have attached a photo of the sampling process with our girls' summer dress that I am referring to. In this photo the current dress in on the bottom with the new item on top. As you will see the new Lowes sample shade of blue is slightly darker and appears a little more vibrant overall. I have now approved all the items colours in our uniform that needed to be colour matched and we will start seeing these items in stock shortly.

Change to current PE Top

I am excited to announce a fresh update to our students' PE top.  Feedback from our parents was very clear that they wanted a top for PE that wasn't so 'white' as it can be very challenging to wash. Therefore, working with the Lowes design team and in consultation with our school's P&F the new PE top has been sampled and approved. I have added images of the short sleeve top for you all to see.  You will notice that the base of the T-shirt is blue with a splash of white under the under the arm. I will keep you informed of the status of the new PE top.

We thank you for your patience and partnership as we navigate these changes to ensure a high quality uniform supply for all our students. We understand that families may need to wear the uniform flexibly during this transition while certain items are out of stock. I am happy for students to wear the uniform items they currently have if you are unable to purchase a specific required item at this time.

Finally, Lowes has notified us of an upcoming 20% off school wear sale from May 13th to May 17th.

Empowering Our Students: Child Safe Standard 3 at MTPS

At Mother Teresa Primary School, the safety and wellbeing of our children are at the heart of everything we do. As part of our commitment to the  Child Safe Standards and MACS CARE, this month we are focusing this week on Standard 3: Children and young people are empowered about their rights, participate in decisions affecting them and are taken seriously. This standard is about moving beyond simply keeping children safe; it is about giving them the tools, confidence, and platform to be active participants in their own safety and school experience.

What does this look like at MTPS?

We believe that when students feel their voices are valued, they are more likely to speak up when they feel unsafe or uncomfortable. Last year, our MACSSIS data reflects our success in this area, with Student Voice rising to a 66% positive endorsement, with 78% of our 2025 Year 6 students feeling they have a meaningful impact on our school.

Empowerment starts at home and continues at school. We encourage you to talk with your children about their rights and remind them that their voice matters. When children know they will be heard, we create a stronger, safer community together.

By fostering a school climate of partnership with our parent community, we ensure that every student at Mother Teresa feels safe, respected, and empowered to thrive. In the community section of the newsletter, I have included a flyer around Child Safety Standard 3.

Regards,

Jess
