SWPBS

Respect, responsibility and kindness

School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS)

Since 2018, over 700 Victorian government schools have been part of this program. The goal is to help schools create safe, respectful, and supportive learning environments for all students.

How the program is supported:

  • Schools receive training and guidance for leaders and teachers.
  • Each school works with a specialist coach to implement SWPBS.
  • Schools are regularly assessed to make sure the program is working.
  • Teachers and families can access helpful online resources.
  • Schools can apply for annual awards recognising excellence in SWPBS.

What SWPBS means for students and families:

Research shows that schools using SWPBS effectively see:

  • Students feeling more connected, included, and respected.
  • Better classroom behaviour and less bullying.
  • More students reporting that adults at school support them.
  • Teachers working together more and feeling confident.
  • Fewer suspensions, creating a more consistent and safe school environment.

For parents who want to learn more, the full evaluation report is available here.

Term 1 Focus

Our whole-school focus this term is on our value of Responsibility, with a particular emphasis on following instructions. Our shared mantra is: “First time, every time.”

Teachers have been revisiting and explicitly teaching our lining up and transitioning routines to support students in successfully following instructions the first time—every time—no matter where they are or which staff member they are working with.
