Principal's Report

Welcome Back!
Welcome to Term 3, our students and staff have settled well back into routines and are looking forward to a busy term of learning.
Introducing our new Staff Members
This term we welcome Mrs Monterrosa who is teaching STEM. This week, she has given our students an introduction to the fields of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), as well as setting classroom expectations. There will be some exciting lessons coming up.
We would also like to welcome Ms Heywood:
Hello, I'm Ms. Heywood and I'm very excited to join the Clyde primary school teaching staff. I've been a part of the Clyde primary community as a parent for 8 years now, and I knew when I was studying that Clyde was where I wanted to start my teaching career. It's been wonderful seeing so many familiar faces in the playground coming up to say hi, from my kid's friends to students I worked with in kinder. Outside of teaching I like to paint, play video games, and play basketball, and at home we have 3 dogs, 2 cats, and a bird. If you see me in the yard, come say hi and introduce yourself.
100 Days of School
On Monday 4th August, we celebrate our Foundation students major milestone,100 Days of School! It will be a day filled with fun, laughter, and plenty of grey wigs and walking sticks as the students and their teachers dress as 100 year olds to celebrate the occasion. The Foundation students will have a short parade for this as part of our Whole School Assembly starting at 9:10am in the gym.
Bullying No Way: National week of action
This year Clyde PS will be participating in the Bullying No Way: National week of action from 11-15th August.
Bullying No Way Week is a commitment being made by thousands of schools and
supporters across the country. It provides an opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to bullying prevention. It gives us an opportunity to connect with students, staff and school communities to implement workable solutions to prevent bullying.
The theme for this year's campaign is Be Bold. Be Kind. Speak Up.
It takes a community to be brave and address bullying behaviours, within and beyond the school gate.
Students can be bold, kind and speak up to support others being bullied. While trusted adults are there to support children and young people learn how to be kind to each other and report bullying.
During the week we will be engaging students in meaningful discussions and activities aimed at promoting empathy, understanding and respect for diversity.
The week will start with our Year 3-6 students participating in Kid's Helpline's Largest Ant-Bullying Lesson on Monday 11th August. This will be live streamed to their classroom, facilitated by Kids Helpline counsellors.
Students will gain:
- Insights from young people who have faced bullying and what actually worked for them
- Practical, in-the-moment strategies for different types of bullying – and why they work
We encourage families to take this opportunity to have open and honest conversations with your child about the impact of bullying and what they can do if they need support.
You can visit the Bullying No Way website for tips around how to have this discussion.
2026 Enrolments
Foundation enrolments for next year have now closed. If you have a child that you are intending to enrol for next year can you please contact the office urgently. The school is currently in the process of offering placements for 2026 and want to ensure siblings receive an offer.
NAIDOC Week
Division Football
On Wednesday 30th July, 11 students from Year 5/6 competed at Division AFL. We played 4 games against other schools. We won 2, drew one and lost our last game. The boys played some really awesome footy and showed great teamwork during the day. We came away Runners Up, which is a great achievement at this level of competition. Well done to all the boys that competed.
Well Done Namo!
During the school holidays, Namo was selected in the 2025 Little Athletics Victoria Under 10 Girls Cross-Country Victorian Team, after competing in a selection race in Ballarat on 12th July.
Namo will now be representing Victoria, at the 2025 Australian Cross-Country Championships, to be held in Ballarat on Saturday, 23rd August.
Lost Property
Each week, small items are handed in to the front office that are retained until the end of each term. Currently, there are two watches that have been held on to. Please collect these if they belong to your child.
Premiers Reading Challenge
Just a quick reminder to log on to add the books you have read onto the Premiers Reading Challenge. Many families are reading but forgetting to add the books onto the website. The Challenge encourages children and students to read a set number of books over the year and record their efforts online.
Logging in with a Challenge passcode
Each student has been issued with a challenge username and passcode.
- The dashboard is your main workspace as you progress through the Challenge.
- At the top of the dashboard are gemstone badges. These are grey when you start your Challenge. They change to green as you progress through the Challenge.
- Below the badges is a green bar. This shows you how many days are left until the end of the Challenge.
- There are also two progress wheels that show:
- What your Challenge target is
- How many Challenge or Choice books you have finished or had verified.
Your reading list shows the books you have added and finished reading.
Gemstone badges are awarded as you progress through the Challenge.
Education Week is here so go to the following websites to learn more about the Challenge itself and good books to read from the Education Week Focus.
Please keep up the great reading and log to see your results.
Book Week and Parade
Each year, across Australia, the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) brings children and books together celebrating Children’s Book Week. Throughout the year, the CBCA works in partnership with authors, illustrators, publishers, booksellers and other organisations in the children’s book world to bring words, images and stories into the hearts and minds of children and adults.
This year Book Week is being held from August 18th – 23rd at Clyde Primary school. Students shall celebrate Australian literature through a range of activities throughout the week, and our annual Book Week Parade. Our Book Week parade shall be held on Friday August 22nd, from 9:10am in the school gym. Parents and families are welcome to attend.
On this day we invite students to be creative as they embrace the theme, "Book an Adventure!", and dress as their favourite literary character. We look forward to seeing you there!
