Year 4/5/6

We’re thrilled to welcome our Year 4, 5, and 6 students back for Term 3! This term in English, we’re stepping into the magical world of The Grandest Bookshop in the World by Amelia Mellor. This exciting novel, set in the whimsical and historical Cole's Book Arcade, will be our primary focus. Through this imaginative narrative, students will be encouraged to delve into complex plot structures, develop an understanding of character motivation, and recognise the author's craft in building a compelling narrative. This novel study will be explored alongside our Ochre units, encouraging students to think deeply and creatively about themes and connections across different texts and contexts.
In addition to our novel study, students will also explore the life and beauty of picture books. This isn't just about reading; it's about dissecting how words and images work in tandem to tell powerful stories. Through reading, responding, and creating, students will develop crucial skills such as: Learning to read images, understanding how illustrations convey mood, character, and plot, and interpreting the relationship between text and visual elements. The intention of engaging students with broader literacy is to create an appreciation and foster a lifelong enjoyment of reading that extends beyond the classroom.
