Assistant Principal Report

Term three is quickly turning in a short but very busy term with lots of activities, celebrations and acknowledgements occurring across the school including:
Year 9 City Experience – Potter Museum of Art & Queen Victoria Market
This year, our Year 9 students have embraced a range of exciting City Experience excursions, exploring learning beyond the classroom. As part of their Maths studies, they navigated the CBD on a mapping expedition, and in Science, they took a deep dive into conservation at SeaLife. In Art, students explored Indigenous art at the National Gallery of Victoria, while for English, they visited the Ian Potter Museum before delving into the rich history and modern significance of the Queen Victoria Market.
Our Spanish students also enjoyed the Spanish Film Festival, immersing themselves in language and culture. Throughout these experiences, students have demonstrated impressive independence and maturity, representing our college with pride.
The Year 9 staff and students are now looking forward to the remainder of the City Experience calendar, which will create further connections across their learning areas and continue to build strong social connections among students.
Under 16 Boys Rugby State Finals
Following their remarkable victory at the Galaah Day tournament, our under 16 boys rugby team earned their place in the NRL state finals - an incredible achievement for a team re-formed just months ago. The boys went head-to-head with some of the most experienced and we -drilled teams in Victoria. Although they didn't come away with the win, their performance was nothing short of courageous.
We couldn't be prouder of their journey - the best is yet to come.
Year 8 & 9 Emerging Leaders Program
Selected students have recently participated in the Emerging Leaders Program, held in the city. Students reflected on individuals they admire and, from this, began to see themselves as potential role models. With their mentors (from Accenture), students explored aspects of self-leadership, including how making positive choices, engaging in meaningful interactions and learning how being resourceful can help them make a valuable contribution to their world. The Emerging Leaders program targets Year 8-9 students to help them view themselves as capable leaders of their own lives and prepare them to step into leadership roles in their future studies and careers.
Food Bank House Food Drive
Recently Epping Secondary College delivered over 500 items to Foodbank, an organisation that supports Melbournians every day in ensuring access to food and hygiene items. These donations are a wonderful achievement that showcase the power and positivity of our house system in rallying students and staff to show the care and respect the Epping community has for those needing some support.
Well done to everyone for their generosity.
Breakfast Club
Our Breakfast Club’s Toasty Tuesdays have continued to be a much-loved tradition, with student leaders helping to prepare breakfast for their peers. The wellbeing team continues to provide a wide range of programs, ensuring every student feels supported and connected.
Invigor8te program
A selected group of Year 8 students began the Invigor8te program at Mill Park Leisure Centre, and our senior Art students enjoyed the Winter Masterpieces exhibition in the city.
Crusader Caravans in Epping
As part of our Work Related Skills program, Our year 11 students headed out on an exciting excursion to Crusader Caravans in Epping! This wasn't just any workplace visit — it was a chance to explore a real working environment, discover a variety of career paths (from hands-on trades to business and admin roles), and a behind-the-scenes look at how a successful company runs day-to-day.
Shakespeare
Year 10 Advanced English students studied Twelfth Night by Shakespeare and viewed Bell Shakespeare’s performance of Coriolanus. This experience allowed them to see how Shakespeare’s plays are intended for performance, linking to their Term 4 unit on 'Adaptations and Transformations', with the company presenting a modern staging. Students developed their understanding of the language, structure, and form of a play, laying a strong foundation for VCE English or Literature.
Reminder – Mobile phones in schools
A reminder to all parents, carers and students – students are not permitted to use mobile phones during school hours, from the beginning to end of the school day, and are not permitted to use mobile phones to pay for items at the school canteen. Phones should be locked in student lockers during school hours.
Thank you to everyone who has adhered to this, your support of and cooperation with this Department of Education and Training policy is greatly appreciated.
Inclusion and Diversity
Epping Secondary College is very proud of its school values – Respect, Resilience and Care, and that our school stands up for Inclusion & Diversity. All students are welcome at Epping, and respect for all runs deep not only with our school values but in how our school community care for each other on a day-to-day basis and demonstrate resilience in the acceptance of all. This is the basis of our strong school culture.
We thank our school community for this, and encourage everyone to uphold our values within, and out, of school.
Enjoy your weekend everyone.
We look forward to seeing our students on Monday.
