Principal's Report

Newsletter report term 3 week 2

We’ve had a lively and exciting beginning to Term 3!

Grandparents Day was a fantastic success—thank you to all the grandparents who joined us. It was such a joy to see students dressed up as grandparents to celebrate 100 Days of School—what a creative and heartwarming display! We truly appreciated your involvement in the classroom activities and lessons. We hope you had as much fun as the students did!

A big thank you as well for purchasing books for our library. These will be processed promptly and made available for borrowing soon—your grandchildren will be thrilled to find them on the shelves!

Junior School Talent Show – First Heat

What a fantastic showcase of talent! Our junior students were brave and delightful, impressing everyone with their singing and dancing acts. The support and encouragement from classmates and visitors created such a positive and uplifting atmosphere.

We’re so proud of all our performers and can't wait for the upcoming heats—stay tuned for more amazing talent!

Open Night – Tuesday | 3:45–5:30pm

We’re excited to invite you to Open Night on Tuesday from 3:45 to 5:30pm. Come and explore your child’s classroom and see the amazing work they’ve been doing—they’ll be proud to show you around! There will be a range of engaging activities to take part in, and our specialist team will also be available for visits. Don’t miss the chance to explore PE, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, LOTE, STEM and Library.

TheirCare will also be open—feel free to pop in and see what our out-of-school hours care program looks like.

We’re also holding a silent auction for a portrait of Bella. More details can be found later in this newsletter and will also be sent home with students.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Disco – This Wednesday!

We’re sure you’re all excitedly preparing for the school disco on Wednesday—we certainly are! We can’t wait to see the amazing outfits and hear the music that gets everyone dancing.

A big thank you to our PFC for organising this fun event for the students—it’s always a highlight of the term!

Author Visit – Danielle’s Writing Workshops

We were fortunate to welcome Danielle, a former student of our school, for a special visit this week. Danielle now teaches Fiction and Young Adult Writing in the Associate Degree of Professional Writing and Editing at RMIT. She ran inspiring writing workshops with our senior school students, focusing on storytelling skills and creative writing techniques. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to learn from a published author and experienced writing educator.

Thank you, Danielle, for giving back to our school community and encouraging our young writers!

Year 5 Visit to Elisabeth Murdoch College

Our Year 5 students recently headed off to visit Elisabeth Murdoch College (EMC) to get a taste of secondary school life. It was a great opportunity for them to explore the campus, experience some classes, and start thinking about the next exciting step in their education journey.

We thank EMC for welcoming our students and making them feel at home!

NAPLAN Results

We are proud to share that our NAPLAN results were outstanding this year! While more detailed information will be shared soon, we want to take this opportunity to sincerely thank our Curriculum Leaders for their dedication in building rigorous routines, processes, and evidence-based practices that have helped achieve such impressive outcomes.

Thank you to our entire school community for your ongoing support in student learning.

Behaviour Focus: Respectful Lining Up

Our whole school behaviour focus this term is on lining up respectfully. At the first bell, 8:55am, students are expected to get to their classrooms promptly and line up quietly while the teacher checks in with them as they enter.

Our goal is to create orderly and respectful classrooms, allowing everyone to settle quickly and focus on their learning.

Thank you for supporting this important part of our school routine.

Parking Reminder – Designated Zones

Thank you to all families who are being mindful of the Kiss and Go zones and following the parking rules—your cooperation helps keep our school running smoothly and safely.

We have noticed some issues with parents parking in staff and swimming pool designated spots. This has caused inconvenience for families who then have to walk long distances to get to their swimming lessons.

Please remember:

  • Only staff members should park in the staff car park.
  • The swimming pool spots are reserved for families actively attending a swimming lesson.

Your support in using the correct parking areas ensures fairness and safety for everyone. Thank you!

Building Works and Grounds Update

We’re pleased to share that most of the ramp construction is now complete. We’re currently waiting for the railings to be manufactured and installed. In the meantime, we’ve shifted focus to restoring our school grounds.

Our immediate priority is the Middle School area (formerly known as the Blue Carpet area—though there's no blue carpet anymore!). This space will be thoroughly cleaned over the weekend using high-pressure washers  to reduce dust and improve cleanliness. In the longer term, we plan to seal the concrete and enhance the space with beautification works.

You may have also noticed changes around our gardens and trees. We’re excited to have been approved for a Safe Trees Grant. This means some remaining stumps will soon be professionally removed once we’re allocated a time. Following that, we’ll begin renovating and replanting those garden areas.

Call for Landscaping Ideas!

We’re looking to revamp the garden at the front office and would love input from any community members with landscaping experience or creative ideas. If you’re a landscaper or gardening enthusiast, please get in touch with myself or the school office. We’d love to collaborate as the Buildings and Grounds Committee begins planning this project.

Thank you for your ongoing support in making our school a beautiful and welcoming place!

Happy 6th birthday to our fabulous Bella.

It’s on Thursday, 6/8/25

You might like to make her a card and send her some love.

As you can see, we’ve had a very busy and exciting start to the term. Thank you for being part of our school community!

Kind regards

Deb Haddow

Acting Principal

We know life is busy, but there’s real power in community. We’re calling on our local legends to help with a few small projects — things we’d rather not outsource if we can keep it in the neighbourhood!

We’re currently looking for:

A licensed gas plumber for compliance checks

Carpenters for a fencing project

An air conditioning mechanic (for holiday servicing)

A landscaper for garden planning

Green thumbs for light weeding and pruning

Even an hour of your time makes a big difference. If you’re able to help or want more info, please contact the front office — Bluey, our Facilities Manager, will be in touch.

Let’s keep building a strong, connected community — together!
