Coding Pixel Animals in Digital Technologies | Year 4
What a start to Term 3! Constable Care incursions to NAIDOC Week and Photo Days, the term really is off and running. It was such a pleasure to reconnect with students and families after the holiday break. When doing the rounds of classrooms, I was really interested in what the students would say was the best bit about being back at school. Their top responses were as follows:
It was really affirming to hear students have relationships and learning at the top of their list! Seeing Archie was pretty popular too.

We have welcomed Rev. Ruth and begun Chapel services under her leadership. We have learnt some new songs already, which I am sure will soon become school favourites.

This morning we were treated to the Year 5/6 Speakers' Challenge School Final in the Upper Primary building. The quality of speeches was exceptional- students presented their ideas with confidence, clear structure and, in many cases, good humour. Whilst siblings and school got a roasting, we learnt a lot about special topics that students are passionate about. From dragons to cystic fibrosis and imaginary friends the finalists all did an incredible job. Congratulations to all students who participated and to the teaching team for their support of this challenging and inspiring competition.

As we settle in for the busy term ahead, an important reminder about remembering to keep kids home if they are unwell. Unfortunately, at this time of year there are many illnesses keeping people away from school. Please do allow children to rest and recover, as learning is really hard when you are unwell. Thank you to parents and carers for notifying us of absences as this enables us to keep accurate records.
Stay warm and take care.
Kind regards

The Year 4 students have begun a unit on coding, starting with a hands-on activity that combines creativity and precision. They coloured in squares - or pixels - in a set sequence to create an animal face. This design was then transferred onto a grid and duplicated using plastic beads.
An iron was used to melt the beads together, forming a small ‘charm’ that students could use or display. The activity was a real hit, helping students understand the importance of being precise and exact when coding, all while having fun and developing their coding skills.
