Year 5/6 News

Here is what the Year 5/6 students have been involved in over the last three weeks of school.
We learned how to use Excel on our BYOD devices and challenged ourselves by creating and analysing birthday graphs. During this exercise, we practiced our skills in data collection and interpretation, as well as learned about the concept of distribution and comparison of different graphs such as bar graphs, pie charts, and more.
In Year 5/6, we are promoting a culture of mutual support and community among students. To achieve this, we have set up the Affirmation Station, which provides a platform for students to share words of encouragement and affirmation with their peers. Through this platform, students can offer support to each other and also to themselves.
We are learning to write persuasive pieces while also understanding the differences
between facts, opinions, and making inferences. These skills are valuable for students to develop.
We learned about movements like push and pull and created our own prototype of playground equipment during STEM/Science. Here is an example of a flying fox.
Our school is excited to implement a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) initiative for Year 5/6 students this year. We have introduced the students to Microsoft Teams and other Microsoft suite like Word, Excel etc. Our goal is to equip our children with essential skills for navigating an increasingly technology-driven world by integrating technology into English, Mathematics, Inquiry, and Science/STEM subjects. This adds a wonderful facet to their learning dimensions to enhance their learning experiences and better prepare our students for future academic and professional endeavours.
Our Year 3, 4, and 5 students were thrilled to receive their own Student Diary at the start of this year. The diary is designed to foster organisation and productivity, and help students keep track of calendar events and extracurricular activities. By instilling these organisational skills early on, we aim to empower our students for success both inside and outside the classroom. Every week, students enjoy reading brain teasers, quotes, and record their thoughts about the books they read during their daily quiet reading time.
Introducing our chickens: Bonzai, Luna, Shadow, Ghost and Macey! Our Year 6 Environmental Captains, Xin Xin Wang and Gurnaaz Saini, are taking care of our chickens daily ensuring they are well-fed and happy! We would also like to inform parents that we are selling eggs at $3 for ½ dozen.
