'Lent is a time for reflection and renewal'

Dear Parents and families,

What a week with extreme heat, hailstorms and cooler winds, we've had it all weather wise and survive to tell the tale! This week our teachers met with parents for our get to know you parent chats. This is a wonderful opportunity for parents to share information with our teachers so we can all be on the same page and so all students can work to their full potential. Thanks to all parents who prioritised these chats in beteeen your busy work schedules.

Over the past few weeks I've had the opportunity to speak with many families and support them and their children in ther educational journey at Sacred Heart. We encourage any families that need to clarify anything or need some support with their children in and out of the classrom, please don't hesistate to contact me. If  you have any concerns please speak with your child's classroom teacher first and we encourage you to seek some further information. I can support you in the right direction for your child, depending on their needs. We are also so fortunate to have Occupational therapists from Connecting OT who work in our school weekly to support many students. Please contact me if you would like any further details. Early intervention is best practise in whatever form it takes, to support students in our school. This was an interesting read that I came  across recently about neuro diversity that can benefit all parents and students .

It was also lovely to catch up with so many parents at the Sandringham Club on Saturday night at our annual, welcome cocktail evening. It was wonderful to see so many new families attend and get to know how friendly and welcoming our community really is. I wish I'd taken some photos of the parents who took the theme to a whole new level. Not mentioning any names!

PARENT HELPER'S COURSE

Next Friday 23rd of February in the afternoon at 2:45pm, I will run a Parent Helper's session in the staffroom for parents who would like to come along and help in the classroom. All parents are welcome, not just junior parents. This is an opportunity to find out how you can help the teachers and students in the classroom and find out more about Literacy & Numeracy at Sacred Heart. I will send out an Operoo form to find out how many parents would like to attend. I look forward to seeing you there.

SHROVE  TUESDAY & ASH WEDNESDAY

As we marked the day before Ash Wednesday our students enjoyed pancakes on Shrove Tuesday. Traditionally using up all the rich foods like egg and butter before the season of Lent. It was a pleasure to join in the day by making  pancakes with our student leaders Lachie B and Claudia B and parent Louisa. We had a well oiled machine churning out the pancakes at a cracking pace! A huge thanks to Mr Blake for co-ordinating the day and to all the staff,  student leaders and parents who donated pancake mix and helped cook enough pancakes for the whole school, there was even enough for seconds and thirds. It was so pleasing that we raised so much money for Caritas Australia, supporting project compassion.

On Wednesday the church was full for our Ash Wednesday service and it was so special having Father Martin taking the service for the first time. The students participated in the service and read so well and were so well behaved . As I walked out the door a parshioner

(ex teacher)  complimented our students on their excellent behaviour, what a joy to hear!

KABOOM

What a wonderful way to finish off our week with a Kaboom afternoon. We were fortunate it wasn't earlier in the week with perfect weather today.  The way the students all  interacted and the senior students looked after our junior students was so impressive. The Year 6's certainly stepped up as leaders in their Kaboom green attire and lead their country well in  the Sacred Heart Olympics. It was a delight to see our new teachers doing the traditional 'dance off'! A huge thanks to Mr Brown for organising the groups.

LITTLE HEARTS PLAYGROUP

We look forward to welcoming all pre scholers to our first Little Hearts Playgroup for the year next Friday 23rd of February at 10am after our morning assembly. This is a brilliant opportunity for future students of Sacred Heart to become familiar in our environment and join in some play with other pre-schoolers. We often welcome Carol our LSO to play some musical tunes and have a sing a long and dance or we have storytime with our Year 6 students leading the way and interacting with the toddlers and babies. ALL WELCOME!

Have a relaxing and well deserved weekend and shake it off!
