P&C News

A warm welcome back from the Oak Flats Public School P&C!

We would like to thank you all for your amazing support in 2023!

We will strive to continue beloved fundraising events such as our Mother’s and Father’s Day Stalls, School Discos, Pie Drive, Sausage Sizzles, Colour Run and various Raffles. Even our school Canteen is P&C run and operated!

100% of all funds raised by these initiatives go back into our school for our students and community. Some examples are our multipurpose sports court, Cooinda Cove landscaping, solar panels, base ten blocks maths resources for each classroom, hats for every kindy student, air conditioning for every classroom, Decodable Reader system for K-2, and last years Spring Festival.

Of course none of this would be possible without the efforts of our members and volunteers. Anyone can come along to a meeting (held twice a term) or volunteer at fundraising events. We encourage parents and families to come to a meeting to give their ideas or feedback, or just listen to what is happening at our school. The more families that give their input, the more we can ensure that the decisions we make are the right ones for our school community.

There is no obligation to become a member or to attend every meeting, and being an event volunteer is easy! Our members do the organising and set up, and volunteers can then simply work along side us to give us a hand with things such as serving at stalls or in the canteen, BBQing sausages, sorting pie orders, or handing out snacks to students at discos.

Without enough members and event helpers, the future of our fundraising activities and school canteen is uncertain.

We appreciate and are grateful for any time and assistance you are able to contribute, big or small!

If you are unable to attend a meeting but would like more information on how you can help us out, please contact the office to reach our P&C Secretary Bec Cheetham or email us at ofpspc@gmail.com

Next General Meeting:

Wednesday 14 of February at 6:30pm in the school library

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

The future of our school canteen and fundraising initiatives is uncertain!

As part of minimum requirements in order to continue our canteen services, and fundraising activities for our school, we must have a Treasurer appointed. Our wonderful 2023 treasurer is moving on after many years of service to our P&C.

Therefore we are seeking expressions of interest for TREASURER 2024 for our P&C committee.

We are a registered not-for-profit organisation and this means any profits we do raise, go back into our school to make it the best it can be for our student’s learning experiences.

This also means that if you’re over 55 years old, and needing to meet a work/study/training test for Services Australia, this role would satisfy that test as a volunteer. This volunteer position could be appropriate for grandparents in this situation also.

The Treasurer is responsible for:

· Banking fundraising proceeds after events

· Actioning accounts receiving & payable

· Actioning fortnightly payroll for canteen staff

· Finalise purchases - for example Mother’s & Father’s Day stall stock, Pie Drive orders (once per year), Disco snacks (once per term) - our other members also assist with purchasing

· Maintaining MYOB records for auditing

· Financial reporting generally twice per term at committee meetings

· Attending canteen committee meetings whenever scheduled

It is important to know that there are 4 other office bearers, plus general members, that make up our team, and are there to support each other with tasks and activities. We are all volunteers and participate for a common interest - our students.

Our P&C and school have worked very hard to maintain an excellent calendar and system that provides our certified healthy canteen operating 5 days per week, plus many enjoyable fundraising activities throughout the year, and are appealing to all parents of our school to please help our P&C committee continue to operate our canteen by way of our Treasurer position.

Our 2023 Treasurer is able to handover and teach the ins and outs of the role, with any needed support and guidance throughout the year, or wherever required.

If we don’t have anyone step into the Treasurer role, our canteen will have to close.

If you are willing to learn how to do the above tasks as Treasurer in 2024, please contact the school or email us at ofpspc@gmail.com as soon as possible.
