From  Our Students

Foundation

Our Foundation students have been reading The Speedy Sloth as part of their Text-Based Unit. Through this book, students have been learning to identify and understand the feelings and emotions of the characters.

They’ve discussed how the sloth felt at different points in the story and what those feelings might look and feel like in real life. This has been a fantastic way to build early comprehension skills while also supporting social and emotional learning.

In Numeracy, foundation have been developing their understanding of addition and subtraction through fun and interactive activities. One favourite has been colour-by-number sheets, where solving each problem reveals a colourful surprise!

They’ve also been working with number lines up to 10, using them to jump forward and backward as they solve simple equations. These

hands-on strategies are helping to build strong foundational number

 skills in an engaging way.

Juniors

As part of their text-based literacy unit, our Junior students have been reading Gary by Leila Rudge. The story, which follows a flightless pigeon with a love for travel scrapbooking, has sparked rich discussions about resilience, individuality, and following your dreams. Students have engaged in comprehension tasks, vocabulary building, and creative writing inspired by Gary’s adventures. They’ve also been making connections between the text and their own experiences, helping to build empathy and a deeper understanding of character motivation and plot.

In numeracy, the students have been showcasing their skills in place value, focusing on identifying tens, hundreds, and thousands. They’ve been using MAB (Multibase Arithmetic Blocks) and counters to support their learning and gain a clearer understanding of which digit belongs to which place value.

Middles

Our Middle School students have been exploring the fascinating world of greenhouses and how they help grow and protect plants. As part of their learning, they conducted a research project investigating the types of materials greenhouses are made from and how these structures regulate temperature, sunlight, and humidity to create ideal growing conditions.

After gathering their research, students developed detailed plans for their own greenhouses, carefully choosing materials that would ensure durability and effectiveness. With their designs in hand, they brought their plans to life by building their own mini greenhouses. To put their designs to the test, they planted seeds inside and are now closely observing how quickly and successfully their plants grow. It's been an exciting hands-on project that combines science, design, and real-world problem-solving!

Seniors

In this unit, Senior students have been exploring Flood, Fire, and Drought, three powerful texts by Jackie French and Bruce Whatley. Each book tells the story of a different natural disaster, drawing on rich visual and descriptive imagery to convey the immense power of nature and the resilience of communities in crisis. A central focus of the unit has been analysing how imagery and human connection are used to engage the reader.
