Cultural Day

Every day Matters

Cultural Day

Our annual Cultural Day on May 30th was our biggest and brightest yet. The Fashions on the Field event was a crowd favourite, with the fierce competition ultimately won by Rose Thwin and the Pacific Islander Dancers. Their vibrant traditional dress and colourful headwear made a stunning impact, and the group’s visual presence was simply spectacular.

The shared lunch was a huge success, with more than enough food generously provided by our College community to feed everyone. A big thank you to all who donated a dish, our day would not be the same without this event.

Our fundraising BBQ raised nearly $600, which is a fantastic result considering the abundance of free food. We’re excited to donate a portion of those funds to Western Chances, an education based charity that has provided an endless amount of support to students at Homestead.

The Cultural Showcase reached new heights this year, featuring an incredible variety of performances including: the Zorba, the Haka, Afro beats, the Desi Duo, and the very popular teacher band, The Late Slips. Our student leaders Manasvi and Mayra did a fantastic job hosting, and Pat O’Brien ran music production like a true professional. We also had our largest turnout yet of performers’ families who attended the showcase to show their support to their students, and we can say our hearts were really full — the pride in our community was overwhelming.

A special thank you must go to Lisa, Suzy, Padma, Puja, Pam, Taylor, Nat, Kathrine, Neena, Tania, Mitch, and the VCEVM students. This phenomenal crew worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make everything happen; their efforts do not go unnoticed.
