Foundation
Students have continued to develop their gross motor skills through the Perceptual Motor Program (PMP). This program is designed to help young learners improve their coordination, balance, and spatial awareness.
Activities include throwing, balancing, striking and catching. These essential movements provide a strong foundation for all future physical activity and support both physical and cognitive development in these early years.
Year 1
Students revisited their hockey skills this week, working on controlling the ball with accuracy and learning to move safely and confidently around others. They also took part in a team-building activity called Cross the Bridge. In this game, students had to work together using a set number of equipment pieces to cross an imaginary river. The activity challenged them to cooperate, communicate effectively, and think strategically—all while having fun and supporting one another.
Year 2
Our students built on the Cross the Bridge activity with an added layer of complexity. The main goal was to cross a bridge without touching the ground (which represented water), reinforcing the importance of teamwork, encouragement, and good sportsmanship. Students had to share ideas, plan ahead, and help one another to succeed. It was great to see so many students taking on leadership roles and showing care for their peers throughout the game. Even Mr. Perkins got involved!
Year 3
Our students continued working on their Newcombe Volleyball unit and added a new and exciting twist with a game of Battleships. This modified game not only reinforced volleyball skills like throwing, catching, and spatial awareness, but also introduced tactical thinking, team coordination and moving into space. The game created an energetic and fun atmosphere while strengthening their understanding of court movement and game tactics.

Year 4
Our students focused on refining their Newcombe Volleyball skills with a special emphasis on the underarm serve. Learning this technique helped students improve their coordination, timing, and confidence in delivering the ball over the net. We finished with a team-based serving accuracy game that challenged students to aim for their teammates and if successful their teammates will join them in serving until all of their teammates have caught the ball after a successful accurate serve. It was great to see the progress students have made with their serving, and how well they worked together in a team setting.
Year 5
Our students continued their Mat Ball unit, with the main focus being on collaboration and creativity. Students were given the opportunity to suggest new rules and modifications to the game, which led to some fun and innovative changes. This allowed students to take ownership of their learning, develop problem-solving skills, and understand how rules can shape a game’s strategy and flow. The level of engagement and enthusiasm from students was fantastic, and the game itself was played in a respectful and inclusive manner.
Year 6
Our students began a new Rugby unit this week and embraced it with lots of energy as we started a rugby unit in term 4 last year. We introduced the basic rules of modified touch rugby and played a range of short games to build familiarity with movement, passing, and teamwork. The focus was on learning how to pass backwards, support teammates in space, and make quick decisions while keeping the game safe and inclusive. The students showed great effort and teamwork in adapting to the new game style and had lots of fun along the way.
Alyra 6D: “People use cooperation skills for passing, and we were learning how to pass and safely tackle”
Rania 6E: “Rugby is fun and you need to use a lot of teamwork”

Winter Sports Gala Day – Friday 6th June
Last Friday, 6th June, our Year 5 and 6 students proudly represented our school at the Winter Sports Gala Day, and what a fantastic day it was! Students participated in Netball at Craigieburn Basketball Stadium, and Football and Soccer at Roxburgh Park Recreational Reserve.
Each team played four games throughout the day, displaying incredible teamwork, sportsmanship, and determination. It was wonderful to see our students support each other, try their best, and enjoy the challenge of competing against other local schools. The atmosphere across both venues was filled with excitement and enthusiasm, and our students should be very proud of their efforts and behaviour on the day.
A big thank you to all the coaches, and supporters who helped make the day such a success. Events like these are not only about competition but also about coming together as a school community and celebrating physical activity and fair play. Well done to all involved!
