Principal's Report

Dear CPS community,
I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend!
This week following the Kings Birthday we held a Curriculum Day.
The day was beneficial for all our staff, our teachers spent the day writing reports and our ES staff engaged in First -Aid training and other online training modules as required from DET. We value this time to focus on the work that supports our staff to deliver strong and consistent collaborative practice.
Victorian Government Schools Principal Conference
Last week both myself and Mr Carroll attended the Victorian Government Schools Principal Conference. The conference theme was Excellence in Every Classroom. Across the 2 -day conference we had the opportunity to network with other principals, and hear from influential and insightful speakers, as well as learn more about the Department of Education’s evidence-informed direction.
The conference keynotes and workshops aligned with the following statewide priorities:
teaching and learning (including implementation of the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0)
wellbeing and engagement
cultural inclusion
network collaboration
leadership
engaging and working with the community.
I would like to thank Ms Allen for her support to remain at school to ensure the smooth running of the school.
Winter is here and we are feeling the cold mornings
Please ensure your child is appropriately dressed for the colder weather. Where possible, we try to give students time outside at recess and lunch each day, which might mean additional layers of clothing are needed to keep warm.
While we encourage those extra pieces of clothing for outdoors, please remind students that outer wear such as beanies and jackets must be taken off when in classrooms. For this reason, we encourage families to name all clothing belongings.
Thank you to families for supporting our focus on wearing the correct school attire during the colder months of the year.
A reminder to check our lost property in the admin office for any missing clothing items before the end of term. All named items will be returned to students however the un-named items will be donated.
Staff and Student Illnesses
Symptoms of cold and flu are currently prevalent across our school community. As such we have had a number of staff absent due to illness. In these circumstances, we try to cover teachers with consistent casual relief teachers (CRTs), however at times we have difficulties finding replacement teachers and have needed to split classes. Please know this is not our preferred method of managing staff absences, however in the case where classes are split, we endeavour to prioritise same year level splits where possible to ensure students are receiving a consistent teaching and learning program.
To help minimise the spread of illness across the school, we ask that if your child is displaying flu or covid symptoms, they are kept at home in an effort to reduce the spread of infection. Please update Compass with an attendance explanation for their absence. We thank families for their support with this matter.
