On Friday the 20th of June our Kindergarten students were treated to a wonderful day for their Retreat Day. The theme of the day was "Keep me as the Apple of your Eye" from Psalm 17:8. We held one session from an Indigenous Perspective where we discussed the importance of respect and belonging to Country and our families. The Sisters of Charity then provided us with a fabulous session on belonging to the Church family through our Baptism. We then had a great deal of fun singing, dancing and completing craft activities all to do with belonging and being the apple of our families' eye. It was a great day!
Each year our school enters into the Diocesan Christmas Art Competition. The Christmas Art Competition provides an opportunity for every child in Stage 3 throughout our diocese to create artworks and written reflections based on one of several scripture passages that depict Holy Week events and the birth of Jesus Christ.
On Thursday the 26th of June two teachers and eight students from Year 5 and 6 attended an Art Workshop facilitated by a well-known local artist Jane Tonks. In the workshop, Jane modelled how to approach creating beautiful pieces of art. She modelled many different artistic techniques and led participants through the basics of acrylics on canvas, watercolour, charcoal and printmaking. It is hoped that participants will add some of this new learning to not only their Christmas Art pieces, but to all their artistic creations in the future.
Here is what some of our students said about the day:
"I really liked the ink printing because I found it really cool how they let us use our own design" - Sam O - 6M
"I liked the watercolour and salt art the best. When I saw our pieces when they were dry, they were really pretty." - Amelia E - 5Y
"I loved learning about how to shade and sketch properly. I think I will be able to use this for lots of art later on" - Corbin M - 6M
"The marbling and water painting was my favourite. We put Glad Wrap on the paint which made a really nice print when we pulled it off" - Lilly H - 5Y.
Here are some photos from throughout the day.
