Semester 1 Reports

Semester 1 reports will be released on XUNO by Friday 4th July.

The reports will provide feedback to parents and carers regarding student performance on assessment tasks and student achievement and growth as measured against the Victorian Curriculum (for students in Years 7 to 10).

Assessing students against the Victorian Curriculum involves teachers making a professional, on-balance judgement about the progress of each student. This is reported as a score. For example, a score of 6.50 for a Year 7 student would indicate that they are ‘at the expected standard’ for this time of year (halfway through Year 7).

All schools across Victoria are currently transitioning to delivering an updated Victorian Curriculum, known as Victorian Curriculum 2.0 (VC 2.0). Our English and Mathematics teachers have been teaching to the new curriculum this year and will be assessing student achievement against this curriculum. If you are interested in learning more about these changes, please visit https://f10.vcaa.vic.edu.au/

One of the significant changes of the updated curriculum are the reporting requirements for Mathematics. Previously, teachers would have assessed students against three strands in the curriculum – Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Probability and Statistics. Students would have received three separate scores for each strand. Under VC 2.0, students are assessed only once against the entire Mathematics curriculum, with teachers providing an overarching teacher judgement.

Internally, we have also updated our Year 7 – 10 assessment task grading scale, providing more nuanced feedback for students and families. The updated assessment key will be available on the assessment task summary provided as part of the reporting process. Parents, carers and students are strongly encouraged to look at the reports together, to celebrate your successes and to discuss areas of improvement.

The final Semester 1 cycle of Progress Reports will also be released next week, so there will be a wealth of information for parents to consider about their child’s progress.

As we support our students in the quest for continual improvement, we are also committed to this ourselves, and we are looking at changes to our reporting and assessment structure for 2026 and beyond. If you would like to share any feedback or suggested changes, please contact me via email at the College.

Course Counselling and Subject Selection

In early Term 3, current students in Years 8, 9, 10 and 11 will be selecting their subjects for 2026.

Information about this process will be shared with parents via email and students via Google Classroom and a range of assemblies and activities at school.

Depending on the year level, there are a range of factors for students and families to take into consideration. These include desired career pathways, areas of interest and strength and the capacity to enrich and extend student learning.

A key part of the subject selection process is our Subject Expo and Parent Information Session which will be held on Wednesday 30th July, between 4:00pm and 5:30pm. This event is aimed primarily at our current Year 9 and 10 students. Please keep this date free; more information will follow.

This year, we have transitioned our Curriculum Handbooks to a more user-friendly, online format.
