During reading we have been working hard on Readers Theatre. Students have been adding their own ‘flare’ to their character roles. We have had adaptations to voices to suit their characters, actions and props were also brought along and used. It was fabulous to watch their stories come alive!

The Great Debates have begun! The 5/6 students have started planning, composing and practising their debates in teams within their home groups. Students have been utilising their communication and cooperation skills in order to create the best arguments possible. We have also looked at persuasive devices that people use to help them boost their argument, such as expert opinions, statistics, rhetorical questions, high modality words and many more!

Students have just completed a unit of work on division. The importance of being able to skip count and recall multiplication facts really stood out. We will continue to work on these areas throughout the year. It would be fantastic if you could continue to quiz your student on their multiplication facts at home.
Our next topic is ‘Time’. We will be exploring how to read time presented in a variety of ways, read timetables and calculate elapsed time.

For the past two weeks students have been working on their “Global Scavenger Hunt”. They were required to choose a country and then find a local, national , and international landmark. Once the research has been completed, they will form a presentation. The students have been excited to explore and learn about different countries and how the landmarks are important to each country on a cultural and spiritual level. If you have read this inquiry section - make sure to tell your teacher to get a lollipop!!
Victoria Market Excursion
On the 22nd of October all the Grade 5/6 students took the train to Queen Victoria Markets. The teachers were all very impressed with student behaviour on the train and we received some positive comments from members of the public.
Once we reached the market the students had to observe how products were displayed, advertised, and handled. We saw the stallholders using humour to engage their customers, advertising specials, and setting up their products in rows and columns.
