Reading

In reading, the grade 3/4s have continued to explore the comprehension strategy of visualising. We have looked at how authors use descriptive language to help readers visualise. We have also looked at how good readers can visualise with their five sense to help gain a better understanding of what they are reading.

In reading, we have continued to explore the features of persuasive texts. We have looked at how authors use persuasive devices to make their writing more convincing. We have also explored how authors use modal language to persuade readers. Students have been able to apply these techniques as they write their own persuasive texts in writing.

Writing

In writing, the grade 3/4s have continued to draft persuasive texts. Students have formed an opinion and written texts about 'Who is your role model and why?' and 'Should children do homework?' We have explored how to develop convincing arguments by including details, evidence and examples in our paragraphs. Students have also focussed on using persuasive devices in their writing, such as rhetorical questions, emotive language, expert opinions and evidence.

In grammar we have explored homophones. We now understand that homophones are words that are pronounced the same way but are spelt differently and have have different meanings.

Maths

In maths, the grade 3/4s have continued exploring the concept of division. We have continued solving equations using the 'sharing method' and the 'grouping method'. We have used think boards to represent division number sentences in different ways. We have also learnt about fact families and explored how multiplication and division equations can be related.

In problem solving, students have completed problems which encourage them to recognise the relationship between division and multiplication problems and the sharing/grouping methods.

Inquiry/SEL

A highlight of this fortnight has been participating in a training session with Melbourne Victory! Students were able to practise skills and then compete in 'mini matches'.

In SEL, the students have learnt about mindfulness. Students have discussed and practised mindfulness using their five senses. Students were encouraged to choose something outside to focus on and explore that object using their five senses. It was a great way to clear our minds and be present in the moment.

In Inquiry, we have continued our topic of "Location! Location!" We have looked specifically at the continents of Africa and South America. Students have investigated the countries within these continents and cultural practises and foods associated with these continents.
