Resilience, Rights & Respectful Relationships:

In Grade 5/6 Byron this week, we have been identifying common problems that young people around their age would encounter. We have been practising some creative thinking approaches to addressing these problems.

In our activity we have practised our lateral thinking skills by working out what different types of advice might be given from different perspectives. It is always helpful to look at a problem from many angles before deciding how to act.

In the activity, our students were given a pre-prepared list of scenarios. In small groups (advice panels), students were allocated a ‘role’ and they helped to prepare a volunteer from their group to act out this role on the panel.  The panel roles included a doctor, movie star, grandparent, sports coach, hair dresser and psychologist.

The challenge students faced was to consider what the advice may be, from the perspective of that role. It was often found that it was not the same as their own personal advice. Students reflected on the importance of the advice given from the varying panel roles, and the importance of seeking help or advice from others.

At the Week 2 Assembly, our Term 2 whole school rewards were announced.

They are:

Level 1: 1 hour of free time

Level 2: Pool day

Let's see what one of our junior classrooms have been up to...

In Grade 1/2 PH we have been working hard towards getting our final piece of our class Gugu puzzle to achieve a class reward, and contribute to the whole school puzzle... we really want that pool day! This week we finally completed it!  We chose 3 focus areas on our class expectations display, and students received their gugu stickers for displaying these. The options for a class reward that our class want to vote on are:

1. Zooper Doopers for the class

2. Free Time

3. Prank a teacher... shh!
