Mountain Biking

Congratulations to Eddy W and Kade P who competed at the NSW Schools Mountain Bike Team Event on Friday 1 November in Singleton. The boys had three hours to complete as many laps of the 4.5km track as possible, in relay format. The fast and flowing track has fun jumps, challenging climbs and great berms. At the end of the three hours, Eddy had ridden a total of 31.5km and Kade completed 27km. Team 'Lightning Bolts' placed 4th out of 25 teams! A brilliant result against some very tough competition.

The Diocesan Golf Championships are being held at the Dunes Golf course Medowie this week. St Joseph’s has students playing in both the 3-person Ambrose and 18 hole Championship event. This is an annual event that involves students from across the Diocese.

Thursday Sport

A reminder to students that hats are compulsory for all Thursday outdoor sport. Hats are also compulsory for ALL PE classes and for outdoor activities including the oval at recess and lunch. It is important that students have a school hat so as to ensure sun protection. Students are encouraged to bring their own personal water bottles for sport and PE and to wear sunscreen as the weather gets warmer.

Girls U16 Rugby League

In very hot and humid conditions, the Under 16's Girls Rugby League played against Brisbane Waters Secondary College in the State Final of the NRL Schoolgirl Trophy. To get to this Final, the girls have had to compete all year and win a number of competitions to become the best team for NSW Country. Having won at a local level, the girls travelled to Tamworth where they played and beat a very competitive Oxley High School, making them the winners of North Western NSW. This led us to Port Macquarie, where unbeaten all day, the girls were crowned winners of Northern NSW. With a forfeit from the winner of Southern NSW in the NSW Country Final, the girls went straight to the State Final, an achievement in itself.

With a good final training session the girls headed to the State Final knowing they would be competitive. At 10 - 4 down at half time, the girls showed true teamwork and resilience, they never gave up and stuck with the game plan, knowing that if they played as a team success would come. The second half was totally in our favour with the girls coming away winners 20 - 10, making them the State Champions.

None of this would have been possible without the dedication of David Dever who has coached the girls to such high levels of success this season, Hunter Dever and Liam Galvin who have provided the girls with expertise and water all season and of course, the parents who have travelled countless kilometres to make this happen. Ms Watkins and Mrs Eveleigh would like to express their gratitude to all those involved, with special mention to the girls in the team. It is a delight and privilege to be involved with such a great group of students.
