Family Educator's Corner

Ms Anne Wu - Acting Family Educator

Welcome back to Term 4! Hope you all had a great time in the school holidays.

There are many exciting activities happening within our school community. Please take advantage of these opportunities to connect and enjoy some fun time with friends, families, and our loving Heavenly Father.

All Saints day and All Souls Day are coming. Here are some ideas for your little ones to celebrate these days in the family.

All Saints' Day

All Saints’ Day (1st of November) commemorates all the saints in heaven. All Saints’ Day is a time to consider the example saints offer us and to reflect on how we can imitate their lives.

Suggestions for celebrating All Saints' Day:

  • Explain the Meaning Behind Halloween and All Saints’ Day
    • Take time to sit down with your kids and talk about the connection between Halloween and All Saints’ Day.  Halloween (All Hallow’s Eve) has been hijacked by our pagan culture and now highlights darkness instead of the hallowed (holy) saints.
    • Explain the church’s teaching on the Communion of Saints and focus on the beauty of these friends who have gone before us and are cheering us on to our heavenly home.
  • Have Your Children Dress as Their Favourite Saint
  • Enjoy Saint-Themed Snacks/Meals. Here are some suggestions.
  • Ask for Intercession
    •  The gift of our friends in heaven who pray and help us to join them in eternity.  Ask for intercession from your favourite saint!

All Souls' day

All Souls' Day is on 2 November, also known as the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed and the Day of the Dead. It is a day of prayer and remembrance for the souls of those who have died.

Suggestions for celebrating All Souls' Day:

  • Light a candle in the church to pray for your loved ones that have passed away.
  • Say an extra Hail Mary for those that don’t have anyone to pray for them.
  • Many people also visit and sometimes decorate the graves of deceased loved ones on All Souls’ Day and throughout the month of November.

"To maintain a joyful family requires much from both the parents and the children. Each member of the family has to become, in a special way, the servant of the others."
