On May 13, 609, Pope Boniface IV dedicated the Pantheon in Rome in honor of all Christian martyrs, and the Catholic feast of All Martyrs Day was established in the Western church. Pope Gregory III later expanded the festival to include all saints as well as all martyrs, and moved the observance from May 13 to November 1.
The All Saints’ Day celebration was also called All-hallows or All-hallowmas (from Middle English Alholowmesse meaning All Saints’ Day) and the night before it, the traditional night of Samhain in the Celtic religion, began to be called All-Hallows Eve and, eventually, Halloween.
All Saints' Day recognizes those known to God as saints—not only those canonized by the Catholic church. Therefore, All Saints' Day celebrates all faithful followers of Jesus throughout church history. It’s a feast day remembering those who have gone before us, honoring their lives and faithfulness. Catholics come together to celebrate continued communion with saints through the ages, recognizing their continued participation in the body of Christ.
The month of November is a time when the Church remembers in a special way the souls of all the faithful departed. In St Louis' church, The Memorial Book on our church altar gives parishioners the opportunity to remember and pray for their loved ones who have passed.
Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.
At St Louis,' our students definitely show their love and compassion towards those less fortunate, through their actions.
A big thank-you to our Year 5 SRC Leaders and Mr Trutch who organised our Socktober Fundraising event, raising awareness and funds for the Catholic Mission for the Caring Center in Mongolia. The Caring Center provides a home for young children who have nowhere else to call home. There were many crazy socks worn on the day, the students enjoyed some fun soccer activities and Zooper Doopers sold out at the end of the day!
An awesome effort raising funds for a special cause.
In Year 6, the students have put into action their call to justice. They have been working tirelessly to research a favoured charity, then prepared the most awesome market stalls to raise money for their chosen charity. The stalls included crocheted items, books, games, ice-cream, cakes, lollies and much more! The P-6 students could bring $5 to spend at the market. Some great bargains were purchased and I'm sure the whole school experienced a 'sugar high' from the amount of sweets and treats consumed. Congratulations to the Yr 6 students and their teachers for the difference they are making in the lives of others.
