Problem Based Learning

In term 3, the year 5/6 students from the 14 block participated in Problem-Based Learning (PBL). We had to solve a problem about the animals getting in the lagoons and blocking the pipes. The students got to find ways to solve the problem and show the engineers. We all really liked it. Here are a few words on how people felt…

For the first few weeks we were just researching, but once we had formed our groups and started the problem - solving it was lots of fun and I liked working with the people in my group. Our first presentation was a bit nerve - wracking, but the second presentation was more exciting. - Sophia

The researching part wasn't really my thing, but when we started to put all the information on slides to show the engineers, it was really fun and I learnt so many skills from it. - Mia

I felt like it was a good thing to learn about PBL. - Ethan

We loved designing our models and slides to present to the engineers. - Heidi and Zaelia

It was interesting to search up stuff and find things that might help people. I liked designing and learning what it could be like as an engineer. - Isabella

I liked how there was a real problem that we had to solve and I also liked how well my group worked together to build the model and do the research. I enjoyed being in my group except for when we had to change something which created an argument. It was fun when we presented our final idea but it was also a bit nerve-racking. - Adelaide

Some of the things that we achieved were thinking deeper into it and we all came to a fair and right decision. Even though some things went wrong along the way, we all achieved.

We would like to thank the engineers for letting us do something really fun like this and our teachers for giving us time to do this and helping us along the way!
