Blue Day

Blue Day was organised by Malaika, Eileen and Alice from Grade 4.

Students were encouraged to dress up in blue on Monday the 13th of November and butterfly badges and keyrings were sold on the day.

In total $224.60 was donated on behalf of Berwick Chase PS to the Deafness Foundation!!!

Malaika loved the idea of Blue Day because she wanted to celebrate the Deaf community.

Eileen wanted to raise money for the Deaf community.

Alice loved organising the day and loved knowing that our donations will help the d/Deaf and hard of hearing community.

Tips for communicating with someone who is d/Deaf or hard of hearing:

  1. Make sure they are facing you and can see your face and mouth clearly.
  2. Make sure the room is well lit and there is no sun glare.
  3. Ask the person how they prefer to communicate (“do you sign, lip-read, talk, or write?”). Whichever method you use, make sure the Deaf person is comfortable.
  4. Talk slowly, naturally, and pleasantly. Do not shout.
  5. Have fun making new friends.
