AS THE YEAR DRAWS TO A CLOSE...
OVERDUES and HOLIDAY BORROWING
The end of the year is fast approaching. Students will be issued with overdue notices next week. In Week 9 students with no outstanding books will be permitted to borrow over the Christmas holidays.
In Week 10 the library will be open for last minute borrows and break time activities.
A CHRISTMAS THOUGHT...
READ GROW INSPIRE
When we READ we GROW in many ways. Reading helps us to grow by increasing our knowledge, teaching us new skills, and helping us to understand our emotions and feelings and those of others. When we read we are INSPIRED to believe in what can be, who we can be and our imagination soars to places we never thought it could.

BOOK BUSTERS CLUB
Book Busters will resume on Monday
BOOK BUSTERS CLUB is an optional early morning reading club for students who wish to come into the warm library before school to read.
PREMIER'S READING CHALLENGE - 2023
The Premier's Reading Challenge is complete. Every student who has completed the Challenge has received notification. Participation certificates have been printed off.
We are just waiting for the Gold and Platinum certificates to arrive so that all certificates can be given out in one week.
ST NICHOLAS SCHOOL CHESS CLUB TOURNAMENT
Yesterday the much acclaimed Chess Tournament was held in the library.
The competitors were Declan Wilson (Yr 6) and Charlie Nguyen (Yr 5).
As you can see from the images the concentration was intense and spectators said you could "cut the air with a knife".
Both competitors challenged each other with innovative moves and played in the true spirit of chess, giving each other time to make their move and containing their excitement as each move was made.
The eventual winner was Charlie. Congratulations Charlie. Charlie will have his name on the St Nicholas School Perpetual trophy and receive a smaller trophy to take home.
Thankyou to our special guests who were ex students, honorary judge, Nicholas Grady who won the chess competition in 2012 when he was a student at St Nicholas School and to Sophia Grady for organising student involvement, adding to the excitement by offering a running commentary encouraging both players and taking photos.
Thankyou to Declan and Xavier for doing a marvellous job coordinating the competition this term. Great leadership boys, we will certainly use your model to work out the chess draw for next year.
LUNCHTIME STORYTIME

TAMWORTH DOLLY PARTON'S IMAGINATION LIBRARY 2019-2023
CHOICE = Motivation
"The strongest positive impact on reading engagement and learning gains come from student self-selection of reading materials. When reading materials are selected for students the links to engagement and learning gain decline significantly."
How Reading Motivation and Engagement Enable Reading Achievement: Policy Implications, Ana Taboada Barber and Susan Lutz Klauda
When students visit the library a huge emphasis is placed on the
premise that they have
CHOICE
in what they can read and borrow.

This will be finalised next week and communicated before the end of the year.
LIBRARY BAGS
Please note a LIBRARY BAG is the first item on your child's eqipment list for next year.
A library bag does not have to be a cool accessory it is merely a functional item to transport a book to and from school to minimise damage occurring to the book.
Please ensure your child has one to start the year. All students require a library bag.
LIBRARY BAGS MATTER... Not just some of the time but all of the time.
No food or drink on my books.
Food and drink are for the chooks.
Library bags keep ‘em clean.
Books are cool don’t treat ‘em mean.
Bring your bag every time.
Fill it up and get in line.
Have it scanned and scoot on out.
LIBRARY BAGS
We all shout.
