Subject Awards Assembly

Subject Awards Assembly

On Monday our Secondary students were acknowledged for achievement and effort at the Subject Awards Assembly.

The Assembly was addressed by their school Captain, Hannah and by two of the Grade 10 leaders, Sophie and Hyland.

Hyland and Sophie acknowledged some of the highlights over the past year, realising that most of the enjoyable moments and memories have stemmed from the connections made and the community built.

Sophie thanked her teachers over the 13 years that she has been a student at SCC. Sophie acknowledged the teacher's aides and admin staff for their contribution to supporting students at school. She then went on to thank fellow students who have journeyed along the way and for the support they have shown each other. "One thing that communities do well is celebrate. Today we celebrate those who have been noticed for their determination in their subjects. Not everyone will get an award. Today we are celebrating academics. We all have different skills, and that is what creates such a strong community."

Hyland went on to say; "God gives special talents to everyone; how we use them to benefit one another is up to us within God's plan. People with musical talents can provide a passage of reflection within the lyrics, people with athletic abilities can inspire us, and people with speaking talents can lead us.

"People always talk about IQ as the measuring system for how smart a person is, I would disagree.

Applied intelligence, looking at how people use their God-given skill set to benefit the people around them I feel is a far better gauge for how 'smart' someone is."

Well done to all those who achieved subject awards today. There will be more detail in a special Newsletter released at the end of the week which will name all of our award winners.
