From the Principal

Dear MPS Families

2023

This is the second last newsletter for 2023. Next week I will send a short newsletter to recognise our Year 6 Graduation Award winners, our new 2024 captains and to acknowledge the staff who will be leaving us.

I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of Mrs Sewell, the staff and myself to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday with your family and friends.

For many, it will be an opportunity to finally catch up with loved ones so there are bound to be lots of smiles.

We would like to wish our Year 6 students the very best as they leave primary school and venture toward the continued opportunities in their secondary education.

We also wish any students and their families moving to new schools in 2024 all the best. For many of our families, this is the end of a long association with the school, to them, we wish you well for the future and thank you for your support and involvement at MPS.

GRADUATION

This week is a special one for our Year 6 students who will enjoy their primary school graduation this week, commencing with a whole school assembly in the morning of Thursday 14 December and their graduation ceremony in the same evening.

It is a special time in a parent’s life when their child completes primary schooling and moves into the world of secondary education and for many of our families this year marks the end of their Murrumbeena PS journey.

We will be acknowledging Year 6 families leaving the school on our final assembly on the last day Wednesday 20 December commencing from 12:45pm.

Thank you to the Year 6 Graduation Committee of parents and their helpers who organised the graduation meal and disco! Thank you for decorating the hall so spectacularly. The students will no doubt feel very special indeed.

REPORTS AND 2024 TRANSITIONS TO NEW CLASSES

On Tuesday our students enjoyed a transition morning to meet their new teacher and classmates. As stated in previous newsletters, class teachers have looked at friendships, a balance of boys and girls and each child’s academic and wellbeing progress. There are lots of pieces of information and observations that are taken into consideration when placing the children and we ask once again that you support our decisions. Your support of your child will be enhanced by receiving news of their placement with enthusiasm and encouragement. We look forward to your support in this matter.

Student school reports will be available on compass from this Friday 15 December. The compass continuum will also be open so parents and students can review the many skills your child has now mastered.

STUDENTS LEAVING THE SCHOOL (including Year 6 students) – If your child is in Year 6 or leaving the school, it is vital to download your child’s school reports from Compass before 20 December.  At midnight on 20 December, all students leaving the school will be exited from the CASES system in the ‘rollover’ process.

CLASS PARTIES

On Tuesday 19 December, all classes will hold an end of year party celebration.  Each child is asked to bring a small contribution to the party (your classroom teachers will have already sent information about this). Students may dress in casual clothes for the party.  Please remember that with so many classes, we do not have the facilities to heat up or keep foods frozen.

WEDNESDAY-LAST DAY

The last day of the school year is Wednesday 20 December. School closes at 1:30pm. There will be a final whole school assembly commencing at 12:45pm where we will acknowledge Mrs Baker’s retirement, teachers who are leaving our school and farewell our Year 6 and other leaving students and families.

Students will be dismissed at 1:30pm

HAPPY HOLIDAYS

School will resume for all students on Tuesday 30 January with the bell ringing to commence classes at 8:55am

The gates will be open with yard supervision commencing at 8:45am

Our 2024 prep students will commence the following week on Monday 5 February

I would like to thank all of our staff, students and parents for their wonderful contributions during 2023.  Best wishes for a lovely Christmas and a happy healthy new year.
