Transitions

Transitions can be a challenging time for students, as they move from one year level to another. Therefore, it is important for educators and parents to provide support during this time to help students navigate these changes successfully, as moving from an environment that you know well to the unknown, can result in a range of different feelings. At St Michael's we provide support through this time in a variety of ways to meet students at their point of need.

The inclusion of "Get To Know You," sessions provides students with the opportunities to get to know teachers and students who will be in their year level the following year. Our first session was a whole group scenario, where students were able to work with peers and teachers who will be in their "new," year level in 2024.

Our next "Get To Know You," session, which ran this Wednesday 29th November,  provided students the opportunity to get to know a randomised group within their new learning spaces with the teachers who will be working in their level.

Our Final "Get To Know You," session occurs on Monday 11th December. On this day our students will be able to meet their 2024 teacher and classmates and engage in a wellbeing session together to get to know each other in preparation for 2024.

At St Michael's, we also provide transition sessions for our Year Six students, where they can speak about how they are feeling about the transition to Year Seven and liaise with those who will be attending the same school. These will run over the next two weeks.

Our prep transitions wrap up this week and Year 5's will have the opportunity to meet their buddies. Exciting!

Please speak to your children about how they are feeling about transitioning to a new class. Next week I will post some strategies that will help parents to help support students during this time.
