Learning in Term 2

For Reading, we will continue working our way through the CRAFT Reading Strategies. We are looking forward to reading the second half of our Reader's Notebook text, Runt, and finding out if Annie is successful in saving her families farm.

In Writing, we return our focus back to Persuasive Texts. To improve the complexity of our writing, we will be working on identifying and creating different types of sentences. We will then be moving our focus to Informative Texts for the second half of the term.

For Mathematics, our Fluid Group focus will switch to Patterns and Algebra. Our focus for the second half of the term will be Fractions and Decimals. Our Applied Mathematics units will begin with Chance and Probability for thfirstv half and then Location and Transformation for the second half.

Our Topic unit next term is 'Think Global, Act Local'. Students will learn about the biggest problems facing children around the world. They will then work in groups, using their persuasive techniques, to prepare and deliver a presentation encouraging people to support an aid agency.

Netbooks

It has come to our attention that there are quite a few students have downloaded apps and other features (such as custom cursors) onto their netbooks. This often results in unwanted programs and potential risks for viruses. Please remind students that it goes against our ICT user agreement to download anything without teacher permission - thankyou for your assistance with this!

Mobile Phones

We are aware that some students are required to bring a mobile phone to school. Please refer to Mr Parkes' section of the newsletter today for important information about updates to the Mobile Phone policy.

Grade 6 Navy Band Concert at Ulumbarra

Last Wednesday, the Grade 6 students had the privilege of attending a concert performed by The Royal Australian Navy Band Melbourne at Ulumbarra Theatre. The concert

showcased the versatility of the band, featuring their traditional Parade Band, Wond Band and Cover Band. They were also joined on stage by students from our local secondary college bands, including some of our former students and current parents.

The highlight of the performance was when we were invited to get up out of our seats and dance along to some familiar, modern day tunes.

We would like to thank Mrs Hamilton for her organisation to allow us to attend.
