PREP NEWS
The Fun Week That Was in Prep!
Congratulations to our Student Of The Weeks (Week 6):
Jiyaan - for his compassionate gestures and always being ready to assist his friends inside and outside the classroom. Thank you for your positive energy Jiyaan
Rosa - for her compassion towards her peers it has been great to see you bring a smile to your peers faces.
Literacy
Each week our students are introduced to two new sounds. This week we have enjoyed moving onto our Stage 2 sounds and meeting our two new characters from the Little Learners Love Literacy Program – Nelly the numbat which helps us remember the /n/ sound and Oscar the octopus helps us remember the /h/ sound. We wonder if students can find objects and things around them that begin with the /b/ and /h/ sound.
Students enjoyed some literacy rotations and we have been lucky to have some of the Year 4 students come in to help our preps explore writing a narrative. It has been wonderful to see our Year 4 students help our students extend their ideas verbally and assist them in writing these down. The Year 4 students have supported students to understand the process of writing a narrative. We can’t wait to share the finished stories with families.
Numeracy
Students have been exploring counting and the different counting strategies. We explored these different strategies. Ask our students about them! Our Preps were teachers to the Year 4’s teaching them about our counting strategies.
Library and canteen
A friendly reminder Prep library day is Monday – therefore please remember to pack your child’s library books for Monday to return in their reader pouch.
Canteen takes place on Fridays - subject to parent volunteer availability to run canteen. We encourage students to bring no more than $3.00. A friendly reminder of regular snacks and lunch is still required on Fridays.
There is Classroom Cuisine for lunch orders available to order online.
Homework
Please read through the homework menu carefully and reach out to your classroom teacher if you have any questions. This week students have brought home a Reading Eggs log in - please enjoy some fun literacy and phonics activities as a part of homework during the week and even in the holidays!
Reminders
- Assembly - due to NAPLAN testing for our Year 3 and 5 students, there is no assembly this week.
- Harmony Week - At Box Hill North, we welcome families from many different backgrounds. In recognition of all the different cultures that make our school community so wonderful, we are inviting all students to dress up in costume that represents their culture, or they may also choose to dress in the colour orange on Wednesday 20th March. Why do we wear orange? Orange is the colour chosen to represent Harmony Day because traditionally, orange signifies social communication and meaningful conversations. It also relates to the freedom of ideas and the encouragement of mutual respect. By wearing something orange you can show your support for cultural diversity and an inclusive Australia. So come along to school on Wednesday 20th March wearing your colourful cultural dress or something orange. At Box Hill North, we will be celebrating our diverse cultures in the hour before and after lunch. We all can’t wait to see our school community come alive in colour to celebrate our diverse backgrounds!
- Hats - a friendly reminder that students are required to have their hats for any outdoor education or play. Thank you for helping your child build independence by remembering to pack their hat.
