School Wide Positive Behaviour Support

An area of focus for the School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support team at Hamlyn Views School will be on supporting students to transition safely between tasks, activities, and locations around the school. Some strategies that staff and students use at Hamlyn Views School include: 

• Visual schedules and other visual supports
• Transition cues, such as a song or a visual prompt to signal a transition
• Visual timers  such as countdown timers or a 5 minute countdowns
• Providing choices to support a transition
• Having motivating activities to transition to
• Use of videos and social stories to teach students how to transition
• Practising transitioning around the school
• Positively reinforcing safe transitions with praise, attention, and monty money

These are just some of the strategies staff and students use to transition safely and respectfully at Hamlyn Views School.
