East Gippsland District Schools Volleyball Tournament

Thursday 21st March was our College's last representative sporting competition for Term 1 with 3 teams taking up the challenge against Nagle College, Lakes Secondary College and Swifts Creek P-12.

Year 7 and Year 8 fielded girls teams with each joining together with such enthusiasm and determination to get their team organised and playing cohesively. The Year 7 team played their hearts out against Nagle, showing good skills and good teamwork throughout the game. Not shying away from the challenge at hand, Lucy, Matilda, Sylah, Amy, Georgia and Annabell put some excellent work into their game and fought the whole match to only narrowly lose to their opponents. Well done girls! We can’t wait to see you back on the court next year with some training and experience behind you.

With a slightly larger team to work with, the Year 8 Girls team organised themselves well before the match, setting out a strategy and sensible game plan to compete in this exciting tournament. Coming up against Nagle Year 8 Girls team, who were just a little more settled and even with their placement of the ball, it was tough going Even though the BSC team had some fantastic run of points scored throughout the contest., unfortunately the match resulted in a loss. The team should be confident that they made us proud and instilled a quiet confidence about the level of volleyball that they will reach in the future. Emma, Darkoda, Abagail, Paige, Sherry, Bella, Adel, Emily, Maali, Ayla and Lisa conducted themselves with maturity throughout the competition, exemplifying the College's core values.

The Senior Boys team of Damon, Bailey, Harry, Noah, Xy, Connor, Lewis and the ever-exuberant Andrew, took to the court in three different games against Nagle, Lakes Entrance and lastly, Swifts Creek. The boys had three very exciting games against some good competition, testing the team in all aspects of the game. They entered the last game against Swifts Creek needing a win in order to go through to the Regional division. Swifts Creek played a solid game, forcing the boys to play a very exciting and entertaining match. The crowd were drawn into the contest like moths to light and the boys even had their very own cheer squad riding every point won or lost. It was a great disappointment to hear the buzzer go and we had lost, leaving them wondering what could have been.

Well done to all who represented the College on the day, trained for the event so hard and promised to be back better than ever for next year’s competition.
