ANZAC Day Liturgy - 1st May, 2024

On the 25th of April, every year, we remember those Australian men and women who died or suffered in the great tragedy of war.

On the morning of April 25th, 1915, Australian and New Zealand troops landed under fire at Gallipoli, and it was then that the ANZAC tradition was forged. This tradition has inspired and offered an enduring example to later generations of Australia.

Each year we pay homage to those original ANZACs, who showed service to this country. They enrich our nation’s history. Their hope was for the freedom of mankind and we remember with pride their courage and their compassion.

Not only do we honour the memory of those Australians who have fallen in battle; we share the sorrow of those who have mourned them and of all who have been the victims of armed conflict.

You are invited to join the St Francis Xavier community at our ANZAC Day liturgy to recognise the significance of this historical event and those who have gone before us. Our liturgy will be led by Year 5.

A prayer for the school holidays

Loving Father, as we come to the end of a term we turn to you in confidence and place any difficulties into the healing hands of Jesus, your Son. Enable us to leave behind any suffering or bitterness, entrusting the past to your mercy, the present to your love, and the future to your providence. Help us appreciate more the need to keep a good balance in our lives. May the holiday be for us a time of rest and recreation to help restore us and re-create us in your image and likeness, as we enjoy more of the love and presence of our families, on whom we ask your blessing. Amen.

Wishing you all a happy and safe holiday !
