From the Assistant Principal

Dear Families,

PARKING OUTSIDE THE COURTHOUSE

The dog therapy and guide dog association are having parking challenges outside the courthouse. The Canine Court Companion Program is run throughout the week and have designated parking spots for their volunteers. Since the introduction of the parking spot, the volunteers have often not been able to access it as some of our parents are parking there. Parking in that spot requires a permit and is specifically for those volunteers. We understand that it can be challenging to park in Sutherland and tempting to park in those spots but would ask you do not use them and leave them for the volunteers. Parking in these spots would also incur a fine. Please pass this message onto any other members of your family who may do pick ups and drop offs in the school.

MEDICATION PROCEDURES UPDATE

Recently, we updated our medication procedures in line with changes to Sydney Catholic School guidelines.

Please check the following information carefully and call the office if you need anything clarified.

DISPENSING SHORT AND LONG TERM MEDICATION:

Prior to the school agreeing to dispense medication over a prolonged period of time, parents/guardians must:

  • Provide medication in a dosage container clearly labelled with student's name and dispensing time. This should also contain an expiry date.
  • Take medication directly to the office and complete the written authority to administer medication form. This may include providing instructions of how to administer the medication.
  • For some students (asthma, anaphylaxsis, allergy) a plan from a GP is required. The office can provided more information on this if necessary.

Students requiring daily medication over a long period of time are reminded by the classroom teacher of the time to receive this medication. This is done in a confidential way to respect the privacy of the student receiving the medication. Many students receive daily medication at the end of break times or after the Angelus (12.00) to make timing easier.

For students receiving short term or as required medication, they will be contacted by the office at the designated time to come and receive the medication. Again, this is done in a confidential way to respect the student's privacy.

All medication will only be administered by trained first aid officers. For St Patrick's, this is our office staff.

PERMISSION TO ADMINISTER PARACETAMOL/IBUPROFEN

At the commencement of Term 2 we will be sending home a form for Authority to Administer paracetamol/ibuprofen. This form will be valid for your child's schooling at St Patrick's Catholic Primary School, Sutherland. At all times prior to medication being given we will contact parents for approval.

EXPIRING MEDICATION

When medication is expiring, you will receive a Compass notification stating that the medication will expire in 10 days. Please arrange for a new prescription when this occurs so that medication does not expire just in case it needs to be dispensed to your child.

Have a great week,

Jim Heelis

Assistant Principal
