ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
The Annual School Athletics Carnival for Years 2-6 will be held on Monday 8th April 2024 at The Ridge Athletic Track, Barden Ridge. The carnival is a fun, school event but also acts as a trial for the Conference 3 Athletics Trial held on Monday 12th August 2024. Our Kindergarten and Year 1 students will participate in a fun sport day called the St Patrick’s Games held at school on a separate day in Term 2.
Thank you to our families who have provided consent for their child to attend this event. We would appreciate it if all families could have consent organised by Thursday 28th March to allow us to finalise details for this event.
Students will either participate in timed/measured events or grade events. Timed/measured events are for athletes with a high level of skill who want to be considered to represent the school at the Conference 3 Trial. Grade events are for students who do not wish to be considered for selection at the Conference trial but would like to compete against students in their own grade. Ribbons/Placings will be awarded for both options. Registrations have closed for any timed/,measured events.
There has been a slight change to the order of events from previous years and we are asking for any 1500m timed students to arrive directly to the venue at 8:15am.
All other students must travel by bus to the track. They will be required at school by 8:30am. The carnival will finish at approximately 2:15pm. Students can leave the carnival with a parent/carer or travel back to school by bus. If you are choosing to take your child/children home directly after the event, you will need to sign your child out with their classroom teacher. We will invite parents with an announcement to find your child’s teacher at the conclusion of all events. If an arrangement changes after the electronic permission form on COMPASS has been submitted, please send a note or email to your child’s class teacher as we require this in writing.
If you are available to assist we would greatly appreciate your help. Please register via the Parent Helper Registration Form. You require a WWCC number and will need it verified by Sydney Catholic Schools along with completing the online volunteer induction.
INTERSCHOOL SPORT
All buses have been funded by Sydney Catholic Schools for 2024. This term there are two interschool sport events.
Stage 3 Netball Gala Day and Unified European Handball
Students of Stage 3 trialled for a spot on the Level 1 or 2 Netball team to participate in the Stage 3 Gala day which will be held as a half day event on Tuesday 9th April. Our level 1 team will wear the schools representative jersey and our level 2 teams will wear the schools sport uniform.
SCS are the only education sector to offer unified sporting opportunities to students. We are super excited to finally launch the initiative across Primary Schools in Conference 3. The Unified Interschool Sports Program joins individuals of all abilities and empowers them to engage in sports. Through building greater awareness, providing stronger pathways, and offering more opportunities SCS hopes to bridge the gap and empower all students to be engaged in sport. We are gathering interest from our stage 3 families who believe this option would be the perfect opportunity for their child to learn a new sport (European Handball). Students don't have to have a disability to be part of unified sport. If you have missed out on a level 1 or 2 team for Netball and would like to get involved in a new sport while guiding others to achieve their best please email amanda.col@syd.catholic.edu.au.
