Maths Competition
This term, Year 4, 5, and Year 6 students from different primary schools were invited to represent their school in a Maths game Competition. 10 people from our school were chosen to be part of the Annual Maths Games Competition. There were 146 participants, and there were over 30 different teams from different primary schools.
All the schools met up at Keysborough Primary School, and the competition was set up in the gym. With tables scattered in rows, each table had 2 teams, one on each half of the table. There were 4 people on each team. As everyone was gathering, we took our guesses for the jellybean jar. You had to guess how many jellybeans were in the jar; whoever guessed closest to the correct amount earned the jellybeans. At the table was a pile of math worksheets and name pins with coloured stars on them, yellow, blue, red and green, which are important later on. After everyone was seated at their assigned tables, we had one hour to complete as many problem-solving questions as we could. While problem-solving, one person from each team took part in Mental Maths, a questionnaire with the other teams with fraction, multiplication, division and shape questions. We did a card game called 24, where you could divide, multiply, subtract and add up with 4 numbers to make 24. We did code-breaking games, where there were 2 pictures which were a math word. We also did some more code breaking, such as morse code and the alphabet upside down; A being Z, B being Y and so on. We played Dao with the other team on our table, which is like Tic-Tac-Toe mixed with chess. The stars on our name pins helped us know who we were versing, and we needed to guess the 3-digit number, which won us $10 Kmart gift voucher. The winners were Dandenong North team 2, 2nd was St Mark's team 2, and 3rd was St Mark's team 3.
