Here's what's happening in Careers and Pathways

Monash Mentoring Program

Westall Secondary College is working with Monash University for students to participate in the Access Monash Mentoring Program. The Access Monash Mentoring Program is highly competitive, and the program is delivered by funding used to support underrepresented students. They assess factors such as the geographic location of an applicant’s home address, whether applicants identified as indigenous/ Torres Strait Islander, and other equity factors.

Westall would like to thank ACCESS Monash which is an amazing opportunity for our Year 11 and 12 VCE students to have access to a mentor from Monash University to help them with a particular subject and give them advice while navigating their final school years.

Thank you, students, for your attendance and registration.

The Head Start Program supports students completing a School Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship (SBAT) while at school and then with the transition from school into the workforce. Students who are undertaking a School Based Apprenticeships/Traineeship must manage their time between: completing school (usually VCE VM or VPC); completing a Certificate III; work and often outside commitments such as sport and part-time work.

The winner of this award will receive a trophy, a $50 gift card aligned to their chosen employment and their name on the Head Start SBAT of the Year honour board on display in the school's Wall of Achievement.

The winner of the Head Start SBAT of the Year award goes to Taairan Tereva.

Taairan demonstrated exceptional commitment and perseverance in his pursuit of the SBAT.

Taairan chose to explore various wood working trades before committing to the shopfitting industry with BRL Contracting as his employer.

He is passionate about his work and eager to further his skills and career within the shopfitting and cabinet making sectors whilst undertaking his Certificate III in Cabinet Making and Timber Technology through TAFE — all whilst diligently managing his studies, including the VCE VM Certificate at school.

His SBAT employer, previous placement supervisors, and his VET Carpentry trainer have all highlighted his ability to acquire new skills quickly. One said, “I explain it once, and Taairan gets it right first time.”

Taairan's strong work ethic, reliability, attention to detail, and understated determination to develop his cabinetry skills continue to exceed employer expectations.

Congratulations, Taairan. The Head Start team is immensely proud of your achievements, and we believe this is only the beginning of your success. We wish you all the best for your future.
