The best sporting achievement in 2025 - after the event
Westall Secondary College is incredibly proud to celebrate our Year 7 Girls Table Tennis Team, who competed at the State Finals
yesterday at the MSAC Sports Centre in Albert Park. Walking into a massive arena with 30 tables in action at once was a huge moment for our students, and although there were nerves on the big stage, the girls battled through two hard fought wins to play Balwyn Secondary, last year’s winners.
Our representatives were:
Ghina Deddy (captain), Kim Nguyen, Maahi Patel, Makhayla
Smit, Suri Nguyen, Natalie Dang, and Sara Wang.
Throughout the day, they battled against some of the strongest schools in Victoria and steadily grew in confidence. Their teamwork, focus, and never-give-up attitude were clear in every match. Thanks to their effort and courage, the team progressed all the way to the semi-finals, securing an outstanding Top 4 finish in the state.
This is an incredible achievement for a young team competing at this level for the first time. The girls represented Westall with pride,
respect, and professionalism, embodying The Westall Way from start to finish. They were a ‘good spirit team’ .
The State Finals were held on November 19th at MSAC, Aughtie Drive, Albert Park.
Also, thanks to Wilson Krai (assistant coach) and Miss Olivia for your support on the day to get the best from our students.
Year 7 Girls Table Tennis Team qualifies for
Victorian State Championships! - before the event
Westall Secondary College is incredibly proud to announce that our Year 7 Girls Table Tennis Team qualified for the Victorian State Championships, that took place on Wednesday 19th at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC), Albert Park. This outstanding group — Ghina, Kim, Makhayla, Maahi, Suri, Natalie, and Sara — are the only Westall team and the only Westall athletes to reach State level competition this year.
Their journey to the Championships has been exceptional. The girls secured their place by defeating McKinnon Secondary College at the Southern Metropolitan Regional Finals, showing determination, teamwork, and a noticeable lift in their overall performance.
Throughout the year, this squad has improved remarkably in all areas of table tennis — including consistent serving, stronger forehand and backhand strokes, rally control, movement around the table, and strategic placement. Their commitment to training and willingness to learn have been key to their success.
At MSAC, the girls competed against strong teams from across Victoria, including Balwyn High School, Brentwood Secondary College, Mary MacKillop College (Leongatha), and Southern Cross Grammar. The championship format includes two preliminary pools, followed by finals to determine the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place positions.
We wish our Year 7 stars the very best as they represent Westall on the state stage. The whole school community is behind you — go Westall!
Building Connections Through Sport (Ultimate Frisbee Gala Day)
Westall Secondary College proudly sent three mixed-gender teams—A, B and C—to compete in the Ultimate Frisbee competition at McKinnon. While the students played with determination, spirit, and plenty of smiles, the day was about far more than simply throwing and catching a disc. It was a powerful reminder of how sport helps young people build meaningful connections beyond the boundaries of their own school. Similar to our swimming and athletics carnivals.
Throughout the day, our Westall students interacted with players from several community schools—sharing laughs, congratulating opponents, and coping with all sorts of sporting reactions that comes naturally in team sport. Each game became a chance for students to communicate, collaborate, and show sportsmanship with people they had never met before. Small moments—like high-fives after a good game, cheering when another school scored an impressive point, or offering a hand to someone who slipped—created a sense of unity that went far beyond competition.
Experiences like the Ultimate Frisbee carnival are healthy for young people. They encourage social confidence, resilience, and empathy. Students learn to step outside their comfort zone, develop friendships across suburbs, and recognise that they are part of a wider, supportive community. Participating in community sport strengthens mental wellbeing, builds a sense of belonging, and helps students see the positive role they play in representing Westall with pride.
The A, B and C teams played with energy, respect, and genuine joy—showing that when young people come together through sport, they don’t just grow as athletes… they grow as people. Thanks for a great day to all the wonderful students who made their school and teachers very proud:

Icreate Sports & Leisure – Taste Tester Coaching Program Report
In Weeks 3 and 4, our Icreate Sport & Leisure students from Years 7 to 10 had a unique opportunity to step into coaching roles during
Westall Secondary College’s Taste Tester program. This initiative invites nearby primary schools to visit and experience the diverse learning programs our school offers. Our students delivered an outstanding badminton coaching session, beginning with core fundamentals such as correct footwork, racquet control, and movement patterns. Once the basics were established, they confidently progressed into game-sense activities that challenged the primary students to apply skills in fun, engaging scenarios.
What stood out most was the independence and leadership shown by our Icreate students. They organised small groups, communicated
instructions clearly, demonstrated techniques with patience, and adjusted activities to suit younger learners. Their enthusiasm was infectious resulting in plenty of smiles, positive energy, and a genuinely welcoming atmosphere.
The primary students left with a strong impression of Westall: a school full of passion, skill, and supportive older students who take pride in sharing their sporting knowledge. It was a fantastic experience for everyone involved, and a credit to the maturity and teamwork of our Icreate Sport & Leisure cohort.

Mr Pham’s badminton awards- Westall Badminton Tournament
In week 7 during Middle Year’s Awards ceremony, Mr Pham awarded all the students and teachers who won their badminton events in his annual badminton tournament in term 3. Mr. Pham runs this event annually at lunchtimes in terms 3 and 4 and the students enjoy the challenge of playing against the teachers and their friends. Congratulations to everyone, in particular Hendrix, Santtosh, Mr. Pham, Hadia and Bree for standout performances.
Mr. Kromlidis’ athlete of the year
Congratulations to Senjum Pagi from year 8 for an outstanding year in regular sport, but success in the swimming pool, at cross-country and the athletics. She is not only our best performing swimmer, but she is a prolific runner and can perform in most athletic disciplines. I don’t think there has been a female athlete like her before in the school’s history. She is a great mentor for others.
Carnival dates for 2026
Swimming Carnival March 10th
Cross country May 12th
