English Wrap-Up.

As we reach the end of the school year, I want to extend my sincere thanks to our dedicated English staff and our committed students.

Across every year level, students have demonstrated impressive academic achievement and genuine growth in their reading, writing, speaking and analytical skills.

Their engagement, hard work, curiosity and resilience are to be commended.

During Activity Week, students enthusiastically took part in our English scavenger hunt, moving around the school to uncover clues, analyse letters and crack the final code. Their energy and teamwork were wonderful to see.

Our English Trivia Challenge also brought out plenty of healthy competition, with students showcasing quick thinking, strong general knowledge and plenty of good humour.

Below are some highlights students shared when reflecting on their year in Junior English.

Year 9 Reflections

I have achieved above average on almost all of my English CATs and assessments, as well as participating in Write a Book in a Day.

I improved in writing text responses and analysing texts like The Giver and article and film studies.

I developed the ability to write an essay without assistance and complete text responses.

I learned how to properly format an essay and extract important quotes and details.

I achieved a strong understanding of our topics and successfully wrote my Romeo and Juliet and The Giver essays.

Year 9 English was fun, and my favourite task was The Giver text response essay.

Year 8 Reflections

I achieved growth in analytical writing and creative writing, and I was proud of my high mark for Catching Teller Crow.

I improved my descriptive analysis and creative writing, especially through fractured fairytales and genre writing.

I wrote a crime story and presented confidently to the Year 7 students.

I improved my analytical body paragraphs and wrote a full essay, which felt like a big achievement.

I improved at embedding quotes in my writing and enjoyed participating in the Knox Symposium.

I improved greatly across all areas and enjoyed reading Catching Teller Crow more than I expected.

Year 7 Reflections

I wrote 15 TEAEAL paragraphs and was proud to receive academic excellence awards in both semesters.

I improved my persuasive and analytical writing and enjoyed completing the Up text response.

I was shocked and proud to receive an outstanding grade for my creative piece, which boosted my confidence.

I reached the top of my English class and received the English Excellence Award. Write a Book in a Day was a highlight because I met new people and improved my skills.

I improved my handwriting, essay writing and public speaking, and enjoyed writing my uniform speech.

I increased my understanding of text responses and improved the quality and length of my writing throughout the year.

I wish our students a restful break filled with fun, some reading, and the chance to return refreshed for a new year.
