Social Skills Intervention
As many of you know, last year we ran social skills intervention on the JC as part of a Tier 2 wellbeing strategy. Given its success and feedback from parents and staff, this program will be continuing in 2026.
As there are a large number of students that have been flagged in both Foundation and Year 1, participants will need to be triaged and moved out of Tier 2 intervention over time. The purpose of Tier 2 intervention is not to be permanent but to support those students who need more exposure to these expected behaviours and increased explicit teaching around social skills to demonstrate these behaviours independently/with Tier 1 Classroom Interventions.
If you are interested in seeing the data collected over the past 12 months, you can do so here:
If you are a Foundation teacher could, please fill out this social skills form by the end of Week 4. This way we can triage based on level of need, have awareness of student goals and can measure growth over time. I have listed those students who were flagged in the transition process, but you may wish to add other students if you have seen a need so far.
Other year levels, if you are unsure about what social skills particular students in your classes may need to learn it may be useful to make a copy and complete this form as well.
The master copy can be found here.
I hope to start the first sessions next week. Those teachers with students in the sessions will receive an email from me soon. Further details about student goals will be included in future briefing notes :)
