Learning Update

From Mr Collins 2-6
And just like that, we are back and in full swing in the senior room. I want to start by welcoming Kenzie, Lachlan and Levi to both the school, and the classroom. They have settled in well and are already adapting to the speed of things.
Literacy
We have been learning about Narrative writing, with a focus on planning and building on the planner to create rich and detailed passages. We are also reading every day to improve our fluency, so please remind your children to read and get their diaries signed off a night.
Numeracy
We are splitting the week up in order to keep the content vibrant for the kids.
Monday - Number
Tuesday - Algebra
Wednesday - Measurement
Thursday - Space & Geometry
Friday - Statistics & Probability
The major concepts covered have been place value, partitioning & expanding, 2D shapes and properties, ruler usage and chance-related games.
From Ms Lehre P-2
What a fabulous start to the year the P–2 class has had! We have been working hard reviewing the graphemes (letters) and phonemes (sounds) we learned last year, while our new Preps are being introduced to our good friend Milo the Monkey.
We’ve also been learning about nouns—check out the photos of our “Noun Town,” where students drew and labelled a person, place, or thing. Collaborative learning is a big part of our classroom, and it’s been wonderful to see students working together so positively.
Our Integrated Studies topic this term links beautifully with The Resilience Project and is called “Healthy Me.” Students have been learning that our bodies need care to stay healthy, including:
• Healthy choices help us feel good and stay strong
• We can take responsibility for our own health and wellbeing
• Healthy habits are part of everyday life at home and at school
Be sure to look at the photos of our healthy “faces” made from vegetables. Delicious!
In Maths, we’ve been using special blue playdough to explore part–part–whole, practise counting, and compare sizes in hands-on and fun ways.
Ms Lehre has been so impressed with the dedication students are showing with their readers and spelling words at home—thank you for your continued support. Keep up the great work!
PE
The kids are loving the structured PE sessions so far. On Wednesday afternoons, the whole school joins Mr Collins for focused Physical Education lessons where they develop skills, build on fitness and learn to play different sports. They then split on Thursdays and Fridays to further develop their skills with Mr Collins, this time only in their class groups. This week the kids have been learning all of the rules and requirements of T-Ball.
School Assembly
On Friday afternoons we will be having a weekly School Assembly. These assembly's give us a chance to celebrate student achievements from the week and hand out various awards. We will also practice singing the National Anthem.
